Poll: Connie Mack Clear Frontrunner In US Senate Race; Poses Huge Threat To Bill Nelson

Congressman Connie Mack

New Quinnipiac Poll shows Congressman Connie Mack clearly leading the pack of Republican candidates in Florida US Senate race. Mack garners 32% of the vote with Senator George LeMieux a distant second with just 9%. Mike McCalister gets 6% in the Quinnipiac poll, while Craig Miller and Adam Hasner are last with a meager 2% each. The week-long poll of 1,185 registered voters included 513 registered Republicans.

Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute, believes this result may force one or more candidates from the race; “Although 45 percent of GOP voters, including 59 percent of GOP women, say they are undecided, Mack becomes the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican nomination…Mack’s candidacy may force the other GOP contenders to reconsider whether they want to stay in the race.” Brown goes on to say the poll shows Mack is a clear threat to incumbent Senator Bill Nelson (D-Out of Touch). “The fact that Mack is essentially tied with Nelson, who has been a statewide political figure for two decades, should set off warning bells at Democratic headquarters.” The poll shows Mack and Nelson statistically tied (40-42%).

Below are the Republican internal numbers on the Quinnipiac poll. It shows Mack leading in all categories.
