Election Day In Broward Kicks Off With Republican Lead of Nearly 20,000 Votes Over Democrats

Today’s Presidential primary and municipal elections in Broward began with a 19,777 vote lead for Republicans over Democrats. The Presidential primary is driving the turnout for Republicans. The Florida Democratic Party decided not to hold a primary for President Joe Biden.

As of 11:00AM on Tuesday, the Broward Supervisor of Elections Office reports 10.57% turnout in Democrat-heavy Broward.

So far, Broward SOE reports 26,208 votes by Republicans and just 6,437 votes by Democrats. SOE reports 2,229 NPA votes.

Broward Republicans To Elect New Chair Tonight

Members of the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) will elect a new chair at tonight’s meeting in Pompano Beach. The election comes following the death of popular Chairman Tom Powers in September. Two announced candidates for the job are vice chairman Chris Marino and BREC treasurer Abby Stafford.

When Powers resigned in August, he endorsed Abby Stafford as his heir apparent. Stafford boasts an impressive list of endorsements by Broward Republicans. Stafford’s supporters include Broward School Board Members Torey Alston, Brenda Fam and Daniel Foganholi as well as Coconut Creek Commissioner John Brodie, Pompano Beach Vice Mayor Andrea McGee and Weston Mayor Peggy Brown.

Marino touts the endorsement of Fort Lauderdale Commissioner John Herbst, a close ally of of Democrat lobbyist Judy Stern.
