Governors Stop Flow Of Syrian Refugees, But They’re Still Coming To South Florida

Update: Florida Governor Rick Scott moves to stop Syrian refugees. According to the Orlando Sentinel, “Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday he will oppose efforts to resettle Syrian refugees in Florida, but also wants Congress to take action to ensure refugees are denied entry to the Sunshine State.”

Following the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday, several U.S. Governors have stopped the flow of Syrian refugees to their states. While still early in the investigation, French officials believe at least one terrorist came to France masquerading as a Syrian refugee. The Governors of Arkansas, Indiana, Lousiana, Michigan and Texas asked for more information before allowing more refugees into their states. In Florida, it appears Syrian refugees still have the greenlight.

Last month, REDBROWARD revealed a well-known Jewish group was using tax dollars to move Syrian refugees into Broward county.

The Tampa-based Gulf Coast Jewish Family And Community Services (GCJFCS) was picked by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees in Broward. GCJFCS is one of hundreds of private voluntary organizations (VOLAGS) which receive public funding to provide a myriad of social services to immigrants.

In 2014, GCJFCS stated some of its funding came from the Broward Behaviorial Health Coalition and the Childrens Services Council of Broward County CSC. The U.S. Office For Refugee Resettlement lists funding for programs from the Broward County Commission, Broward College and South Florida Workforce Board.

GCJFCS claims the Refugee Resettlement & Placement program helps “resettle refugees from around the world who have been persecuted based on ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or membership in a social group.” GCJFCS said it helped “refugees primarily from Iraq, Cuba and Congo find a better life for their families in Pinellas and Broward County.” Last month, The Tampa Tribune reported a big jump in Syrian refugees.

So far this year, 41 Syrian refugees have resettled near Tampa, said Janet Blair, community liaison with Florida Department of Children and Families’ Refugee Services. Last year, there were three.

On Thursday, the day before the Paris attacks, the Miami Herald expained how tax dollars are used to help Syrian refugees.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) greeted both families, helping them with housing, furniture and other services. The families receive aid from the IRC for about 30 to 90 days, then are switched over to a federal self-sufficiency program called Matching Grants. This program, administered by the IRC, helps refugees with job placement, public transportation, education, English classes, etc. In general, families are helped for about six months.

Today, a South Florida Sun-Sentinel editorial mocks the notion of Florida Governor Rick Scott stopping the Syrian refugees. Daniel Vasquez wrote, “No state other than Texas is more prepared for a small-scale gun attack than Florida. Florida is the Gunshine State. We have more people with guns than trees with oranges.”

Cute. But there are real issues involved with the refugee resettlement.

Nobody wants refugees fleeing war zones to suffer. However, taxpayer dollars are being used by private groups to fund programs. It benefits these private groups to claim a problem they can solve is growing.

As we asked last month, can Broward County handle 2,000 or 3,000 refugees?

Is anybody even asking this question?

Broward Schools Offering OBAMA 101 To Our Kids, Again? Obama Adviser To “Pitch” Policy To Broward Students

You shouldn’t be shocked by the amount of political indoctrination heaped upon the school kids in Broward county. We showed you the pro-Obama education talking points supplied to Broward teachers. We hear stories of pro-Democrat announcements (paging Debbie Wasserman Schultz D-Out Of Touch). And don’t forget about all the Democrat politicians and candidates that visit the schools during election years.

According to the Sun-Sentinel. on Wednesday, President Obama’s top environmental adviser will visit South Plantation High School.

Nancy Sutley, chairwoman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, will also promote the president’s climate-change policies at the first annual Climate Leadership Conference in Weston on Wednesday afternoon.

Her visit and the conference will put South Florida in the spotlight as a leading example of climate change and energy issues. Environmentalists say Florida is especially vulnerable to the consequences of global warming because much of it is just above sea level.

Sutley will tour South Plantation High School at 9:30 a.m. to call attention to the school’s energy savings through upgrades, including advanced lighting, water and ventilation systems.

Sutley also plans to talk with students about the president’s energy policies, outlined in his State of the Union address. And she will promote his pitch for modernizing and rebuilding schools to prepare students for future jobs.

Wait. What? Why on Earth is Ms. Sutley talking to our kids about programs outlined in the State of the Union Address? Why is she “pitching” anything to our kids, let alone environmental policies timed to benefit a re-election campaign? Has anyone warned the parents at South Plantation High School? Did they give permission to have their kids attend a pro-Obama political rally?

Here is Ms. Sutley’s bio from the White House website:

Prior to her appointment, Sutley was the Deputy Mayor for Energy and Environment for the city of Los Angeles, California. She represented Los Angeles on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and served on the California State Water Resources Control Board from 2003- 2005. Sutley also worked for California Governor Gray Davis as Energy Advisor, managing state and federal regulations, legislative affairs, finances and press relations.

ABC NEWS wrote about Sutley’s work as a Democrat political operative:

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa turned to Sutley to help him in his goal to transform L.A. into ‘the greenest big city in America,’ and Sutley has been on the case, retrofitting 500 of the city’s oldest buildings to make them more energy efficient and imposing environmental standards on new large commercial buildings.

Sutley was an energy advisor to Gov. Gray Davis, was deputy secretary for policy and intergovernmental relations within the California Environmental Protection Agency, and served on the California State Water Resources Control Board.

During the Democratic primaries, Sutley was on Sen. Hillary Clinton’s California Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender steering committee. The move by President-elect Obama to appoint someone who is a gay rights activist to a prominent position in his administration came after pressure mounting from the LGBT community.

Democrats may be tempted to say, “HOLD ON RED BROWARD, Ms Sutley is a scientest who will talk to our kids about the scientific aspects of environmental policies and well as give her scientific opinion of the great works of the South Plantation students.” Bunk. The NEW YORK TIMES gave Ms Sutley’s “scientific” qualifications:

holds a B.A. in government from Cornell and an M.A. in public policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard … a Mets fan and a devotee of Wallace and Gromit, the British claymation-style movie series about a scatterbrained inventor who is overly fond of cheese and his precocious dog
