Broward GOP Chair Candidate’s Social Media #EPICFAIL

cooleyLauren Cooley, a 23 year old Fort Lauderdale musician, thinks her social media prowess makes her the logical choice to be the next chair of the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC). In a weekend email to Broward Republicans, Cooley claimed she has a, “Personal social media reach of over a quarter-million on Twitter each month.” The claim sounds impressive, but a review of Cooley’s social media accounts and her personal website shows she barely mentions the Broward Republican Party.

In her email, Cooley boasted she had 26,000 Twitter followers. On Twitter, your followers receive messages you send via the social media application. On October 13, Cooley announced her campaign for BREC chair. Since then, Cooley has sent out just 28 tweets. Only one, a Sun-Sentinel article, mentioned the Broward Republican party. Only two more tweets were even related to Broward county.

The rest of Cooley’s tweets mentioned the Democratic Party debates, promoting Lifezette, Starbucks, lousy customer service at FEDEX, the Women Impacting the Nation (WIN) meeting in Palm Beach, Happy “Back To The Future Day,” and Donald Trump’s visit to Doral.

Not even a lousy tweet to attend tonight’s BREC election in Plantation.

Perhaps Cooley realizes the vast majority of her Twitter followers do not know what “Broward” means. A review of her followers shows hundreds and hundreds of fake Twitter accounts and accounts used to buy Twitter followers.

Among Cooley’s fake Twitter followers: Amar Singh from “sector 24 Faridabad,” Kahikilani Grant, Calefornya Girls, Vibes With BAE, Sarowar Parvej, Gilgamesh Nabeel, 145,000+, MrzPeachezPleasurez and Mr. Puppy. It’s safe bet most of these folks are not BREC members. At least not yet.

Cooley’s personal website,, has no mentions of her BREC campaign. No mention on the “home” tab. No mention on the “about Lauren” tab. No mention on the “journalism” tab. No mention on the “speaking” tab. No mention on the “consulting,” “CV/resume,” or “contact” tabs.

BREC doesn’t get much love on Cooley’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. Cooley announced her BREC campaign on both social media accounts on October 13. Since the announcement, Cooley has posted pictures just 3 times on Instagram: a picture at Starbucks, a picture promoting the Palm Beach WIN meeting and a picture of bacon and eggs. Cooley has just 313 followers on Instagram.

On Facebook, Cooley has made 14 posts since her October 13th announcement. She posted her bacon and eggs picture, a Lifezette article she authored, a WIN meeting post, 7 posts regarding Leadership Institute activities at FAU and the University of Miami and a post from the Donald Trump rally in Doral.

Cooley did post the recent Sun-Sentinel article on the BREC election.

Despite touting herself as a millennial social media guru, Cooley’s social media accounts seem better suited to an 80 year-old BREC member.

Too much self promotion, Not enough action. BREC needs better.

Broward Republican Chair Candidate Admits Violating Florida Fundraising Laws

Gene Robinson sent BREC members this scene from the 1991 gangster movie A Rage In Harlem
One of the candidates hoping to lead the Broward Republican Party admits he is violating Florida statutes regarding fundraising. Eugene “Gene” Robinson often touts his role as a “professional fundraiser” as the best reason to elect him chairman of the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC). Robinson mentioned his work as a fundraiser when he ran for BREC chairman in 2010, 2014 and this year. BREC will elect a new chairman on Monday, October 26th.

Florida law has strict guidelines and proceedures regarding professional fundraising solicitors and consutlants. An individual or business who solicits funds from the public must first register with the Florida Department of Agriculture. A Department spokesman told REDBROWARD the failure to register can lead to “severe” civil penalties and criminal charges.

A search of the State database shows Robinson is not registered as a professional fundraiser.

In a telephone interview with REDBROWARD, Robinson admitted he is not registered with the State of Florida. Robison was asked about his fundraising activities at last week’s debate at a Tea Party Fort Lauderdale meeting. “I am not registered,” Robinson told REDBROWARD.

“I didn’t know about registering,” Robinson said. “Besides, I never made any money from fundraising. I have never been paid for fundraising.” When asked if he had any paying employment, Robinson said his “very nice family” takes care of him. Lack of financial benefit does not exempt one from registering.

Robinson said he raised funds for Coral Springs Chargers youth football, Majorie Stoneman Douglas High School and for a young lung transplant patient.

Robinson could not remember how much money he raised for these groups. Robinson said he is not a member of any professional fundraising organization.

This is just the latest odd twist coming from the Robinson campaign. In an email announcing his campaign, Robinson included a link to violent clip from the 1991 gangster movie A Rage In Harlem. In the clip, a violent thug (played by Robinson) attempts to rob a character portrayed by actor Forrest Whittaker. The clip ends with one gangster holding a gun to Robinson’s head.

Sure it’s Hollywood make-believe, but is this the image BREC wants for its chairman?

Robinson is running against Lauren C. Cooley, a 23 year old musician and Robert Sutton, the acting BREC chairman.

Karen Harrington Picks Charlie Crist-Loving Vice Chair Who Bashes Rubio, Palin & Tea Party

Karen Harrington, the wannabe leader of Broward Republicans, has picked a running mate who lamented the party of “our great Governor” Charlie Crist had been “hijacked” by “right wing zealots” like Senator Marco Rubio, Governor Rick Scott, Sarah Palin and the tea party. In a letter sent to Broward Republican activists, Harrington announced Alvin Entin as her running mate in the upcoming BREC elections. Harrington writes, “Mr. Entin will make a great contribution to our team as Vice Chairman bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience helping to develop our outreach efforts and implement a winning strategy moving forward.”

Uh oh. Guess Ms. Harrington didn’t read Entin’s blog entitled, Curmudgeons Curious Condrums.

In a September 2010 post, “My Party Has Been Hijacked”, Entin unleashes his inner curmudgeon against Marco Rubio, Bill McCollum, Rick Scott, Sarah Palin and the tea party:

“The results are in from Delaware and another responsible, intelligent Republican has lost a primary election. It shouldn’t have been a contest. A former Governor, a current Congressman and a fiscal conservative with Moderate views on social issues, Mike Castle has lost to a “tea party” candidate whose only apparent qualification was her endorsement by the high priestess of mediocrity, Sarah Palin. A chance to pick up another US Senate seat lost in the transaction. Voters who can read, understand, and appreciate will desert in droves to the Democratic candidate. If I lived in Delaware I would most definitely be with them. After all here in Florida the self same right wing zealots have pushed our great Governor right out of the Republican party. The Republican nominee, Marco Rubio embraced the same close minded segments of the tea party movement as his fulcrum to power, and now must live with the consequences of his unholy arrangement. He will soon discover that the recipe for success in the primaries will not translate to victory in November. To win you must attract independents and moderates, those voters will flock to Governor Crist.”

Wait, it gets better. Entin says he will not vote for Rubio and Scott and he compares conservatives to racist Democrat bigots from the 1960s South:

“I have never been a fan of Bill McCuollum, yet I voted for him in the primary. I held my nose, but I voted for him. I cannot even hold my nose and vote for Rick Scott or Marco Rubio. This isn’t the first time I have felt this way, but it is the first time I cannot stand silent. My party has been hijacked by the kind of mean, small minded people that used to elect the Eastlands, Russells, Maddoxes to high office in the South”

Entin adverstises his blog on his Facebook page. How could Harrington miss it? This is her first big choice?

What “outreach efforts” will she employ if her handpicked vice chair hates tea partiers and our Governor and our US Senator?

In the race for BREC chairman,Harrington is running against the heavily favored and well liked Rico Petrocelli.
