Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced he is not running for U.S. Senate.

Here’s the statement he posted on Facebook around noon:

“Friends, for asking and encouraging us to run as your candidate for the US Senate, thank you. Together we share an inspired vision for the future of America that is rooted in the founding documents of our country. Conservative principles of limited government that honors the talent, hard work and sacrifice of every American to pursue their dreams and create a purposeful life for themselves and their family. We also share a deep concern over the direction of our country and with those who believe that more taxes, more spending and more debt to fund bigger, intrusive and centralized government to plan and pamper our lives is destroying the American Character. We must fight for the future of our country. The time is now and the battleground is Florida.

Carole and I and our entire family traveled with you across Florida for sixteen months to ask for and receive your confidence and the high honor of serving as your Chief Financial Officer. For just over a year now we have been at the task of reducing your taxes, reducing your debt and creating an environment for Floridians to succeed on the paths they have chosen. Only slightly a year into this role I continue to feel blessed to be serving as your financial watchdog of government spending and I see so many more ways that I can serve you in this present capacity. As much as Carole and I are humbled by your calls, notes and messages to enter the US Senate race and carry our banner into the fight we believe we have a responsibility to finish the job Floridians elected us to do.

I promise you this, I will be with you and I will work at your side between now and November to see that Florida elects a United States Senator committed to our founding principles of freedom and liberty which has produced a prosperity never before achieved on this planet and which has inspired people across the globe. Let us press onward and see that Florida does it’s part to preserve and advance this exceptional Constitutional Republic in the spirit of what Abraham Lincoln knew to be, ‘the last best hope on earth.’ Jeff”

GOP Challenger Raises $400K In Bid To Unseat Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Ozzie DeFaria, US House camdidate and Republican “Young Gun”, announced he has raised nearly $400,000 in his bid to challenge Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Out of Touch). Back in February, the National Republican Congressional Committee named DeFaria as a “Young Gun” meaning his campaign was worthy of national support.

Here is the DeFaria press release:

“Weston, FL – Florida Congressional Candidate (CD23) Ozzie deFaria today announced that his campaign has reported nearly $400,000 in total receipts, an amount greater than any challenger to Debbie Wasserman Schultz has ever reported. Yesterday, Ozzie declared over $181,000 in 1st Quarter receipts and over $200,000 cash-on-hand.

Ozzie has secured support from over 1,700 individual donors across 48 states. The campaign has nearly six times as many individual donors as it did at the end of the 4th Quarter, the first reporting period for the campaign. Ozzie has more in total receipts than Wasserman Schultz’s general election opponents in 2008 and 2010 combined.

The vast majority of Ozzie’s supporters are small dollar donors. Since very few of these people have contributed the maximum amount, the campaign can seek additional donations from these supporters multiple times before the November General Election.

‘I am proud and thankful that my campaign is rallying support from conservatives across America who understand the national implications of this race and the necessity to have a credible, well-funded candidate to take on DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Debbie is vulnerable in this economy-focused election. I will contrast my record as a jobs creator to her blind support of Barack Obama’s numerous jobs killing policies and defeat her this November,’ said Ozzie deFaria.

In February, Ozzie was named an ‘On the Radar’ candidate as part of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s prestigious Young Guns program. He is a first generation citizen who has lived the American dream without one government handout. He worked his way through college and then climbed the ranks at AT&T to become an executive managing a $1.5 billion portfolio. He left AT&T to serve as the CEO and COO of other firms. Throughout his career, Ozzie helped create over 2,000 private sector jobs and added $800 million to the economy.”
