Fireworks! Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick Asks Dale Holness “You Want To Go To Congress And Do What, Steal?!?”

Fireworks flew at the Sun-Sentinel when Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick dismantled attacks by desperate Democrat Dale Holness. The Sun-Sentinel posted video of its Opinion Makers™️ interviewing the two Democrat candidates for US Congress CD 20 on Wednesday. Sparks flew when reporter Anthony Man asked Holness about his mailers attacking McCormick.

As REDBROWARD teased last week, Dale Holness is so desperate he’s using our reporting to attack Cherfilus McCormick.

Holness claims Sheila Cherfilus McCormick made contributions to a “Republican PAC,” referring to the Leadership In Action political committee. In September 2021, REDBROWARD revealed a company owned by Cherfilus McCormick made large contributions to this PAC.

However, our story detailed how the PAC made payments to Mark Goodrich, who has worked for some Republican clients. There is no evidence the PAC itself is partisan in anyway.

In defending herself, Cherfilus McCormick asked Holness about an “FBI raid” at his real estate office in Plantation. Holness denied the claim stating, “My office was never raided!”

In a January 2022 motion filed by the US attorney opposing a lighter sentence for Holness’ daughter, prosecutors detailed their attempts to speak with Damara Holness regarding PPP fraud. The US Attorney stated Damara Holness failed to appear at several arranged meetings with FBI agents. At one point agents served a subpoena to Damara Holness “at a shopping mall as she was getting out of a green Tesla.” Dale Holness’ office is located in a shopping mall in Plantation.

In June 2021, a source close to Holness told REDBROWARD that law enforcement officers did visit the real estate offices. Our June 2021 report stated, “One political insider claimed the unidentified law enforcement officers visited the All Broward Realty office in Plantation in search of a specific individual. REDBROWARD is withholding the name of this individual since no charges have been filed.” The individual not named in the report was in fact Damara Holness.

Damara Holness Served At Shopping Mall

Damara Holness is currently served a twenty-one month sentence at at Federal prison in Marianna, Florida.

Sun-Sentinel opinion editor Steve Bousquet asked Holness about the arrest of his “campaign guru” Omar Smith. Holness laughed at notion that Smith was his “guru.” He said Smith was one of many consultants he hired over the years. “He did what he did,” Holness said. “It has nothing to do with me.”

Earlier this month, Smith pled guilty to one count of bank and wire fraud surrounding a fraudulent PPP loan. He faces up to thirty years in prison.

All the questions surrounding FBI raids, prison and criminal activity lead Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick to ask Dale Holness, “You want to go to Congress and do what, steal?”

Holness did not answer.

Dale Holness Campaign Guru Omar Smith Pleads Guilty To Federal Fraud Charges

Omar Smith

Omar Miguel Smith, a longtime political operative of former Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness, pled guilty on Friday to Federal charges related to COVID-19 relief fraud. REDBROWARD first reported on the suspicious Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan Smith received last year. Smith obtained $212,500 for his single person company, A Star For I, Inc.

Smith faces up to thirty years in prison.

Here’s the press release from the United States Attorney’s Office:

Miami, Fl. –Today 42-year-old Royal Palm Beach, Florida resident Omar Smith pled guilty in South Florida federal court to lying on a coronavirus relief loan application and fraudulently obtaining hundreds of thousands of dollars intended to help small businesses financially survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the information to which he pled guilty, in June 2020, Smith applied for a $212,500 forgivable, federally guaranteed Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan on behalf of A Star For I, Inc., a Florida company that he owned. It is alleged that to justify the requested loan amount, Smith claimed in the on-line loan application, and through supporting fraudulent payroll tax forms, that his company employed 30 people and spent an average of $85,000 each month on payroll. In fact, A Star For I, Inc had zero employees and no payroll expenses. A bank in Utah approved A Star For I, Inc.’s PPP loan application based on the lies and wired $212,500 to the company’s bank account in Florida, says the information.

Once the money hit the bank account in July 2020, Smith spent the next few months creating a paper trail to make it appear as if A Star For I, Inc. in fact had employees and was spending the PPP money on legitimate, approved expenses, it is alleged. According to the information, Smith issued checks from the company bank account made out to others who did little or no work for A Star For I, Inc.

Smith faces up to thirty years in prison and a fine of the greater of twice the gross gain or twice the gross loss or $1,000,000. United States District Judge Robin Rosenberg will sentence Smith on a date and time to be announced.

Smith has worked on political campaigns in South Florida.

Juan Antonio Gonzalez, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Jay Bernardo, Acting Special Agent in Charge, FBI Miami, announced the charges.

FBI Miami investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Kaplan is prosecuting it.
