Bob Norman, WPLG/Local 10 Investigative Reporter, reports on the first day of Scott Rothstein’s deposition in Miami. Norman said it was a “bombshell”:
“Scherer wouldn’t say who the firms were, but other lawyers at the deposition at the federal courthouse in Miami identified one of the alleged attorneys as Steve Rossi, who is best known for bus benches he has all over town.
Rothstein claimed that Rossi — a former prosecutor and FBI agent who ran for Fort Lauderdale mayor in 2008 — vouched for bogus legal settlements with dubious investors, saying he had referred some of the cases to the Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm.
Rossi didn’t return a detailed message for comment.“
Today, Steve Rossi is listed on the Broward Teachers Union website under legal services.

Savings is our middle name?
Rossi operates his own website touting his BTU/education law expertise. Rossi writes,
“Thank you for visiting School Info Now- your portal to School Law and other EDU-relevant information in Broward County,FL.
The page features legal topics and issues of interest to professionals educators. This site is maintained through the assistance of BTU Legal Counsel Steve Rossi and his staff.“

Rossi calls himself "legal counsel"
On the website, Rossi states he acts as an instructor for the Broward School District:
“Mr. Rossi also represents the Broward Teacher’s Union(BTU) as its local, legal counsel. The Broward Teacher’s Union has more than 10,000 members. He has handled various teacher-related cases in both civil and criminal matters. He presents various lectures and workshops focusing on education law. He is an annual instructor for the Broward County School District’s New Teacher Orientation Program discussing various issues in teacher liability matters.“

Does he get paid by the Broward School District?
Back in 2009, Rossi was legal counsel for imprisoned Broward School Board Member Beverly Gallagher. Norman’s reporting on Rossi’s representative caused the Broward Teachers Union to issue a statement distancing themselves from Rossi:
“Attorney Steve Rossi is one of several private lawyers who works for the Broward Teachers Union and its members.
As a private attorney, Attorney Steve Rossi can be hired by anyone including BTU members and non-members as well as individual citizens.
He serves as BTU’s local counsel, which simply means he is on retainer, and operates his own private practice, the Law Offices of Steve Rossi, in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
The Broward Teachers Union works with many lawyers including, but certainly not limited to, Attorney Steve Rossi.
Attorney Steve Rossi is very well-known in the Broward education community.
The BTU has no in-house’ or staff attorneys.“
Golly gee, someone ought to inform Rossi’s webmaster. And while they’re at it, tell the same thing to the BTU webmaster.
Was Rossi getting paid by the BTU and Broward School District? Is it a mere coincidence that Scott Rothstein and Pat Santeramo and his BTU crew supported Democrat Alex Sink? Did Scott Rothstein and Pat Santeramo attend the same Alex Sink fundraisers? When will the media stop calling Rothstein just a “GOP fundraiser” It should be a fun two weeks in Miami…Stay Tuned.
