“FIGHTER?” Pompano Beach Candidate Delvin King Did Nothing To Stop Beating Of Student Because He “Didn’t Want To Risk My Safety”

Pompano Beach commission candidate Delvin King wants voters to think he is a “fighter.” While King refused our request for comment on the 2021 beating of a student at his Youth Under Construction school by a security guard, King ran to social media to list ways he fought for the residents of Pompano Beach. His post made no mention of the $61.5 million dollars his school owes the student.

As REDBROWARD reported on Tuesday, a Broward jury found that Delvin King’s school owes $61.5 million dollars to a student beaten in the presence of King. According to court records from January 2021, a student at the Youth Under Construction of Broward County private school was beaten in the office of school principal Delvin King. The armed security guard repeatedly shoved the student to the ground, pushed him and even grabbed him by the neck. King did nothing to stop the altercation. The entire incident was caught on video.

In response to our report, King, a Republican, made a lengthy Facebook post to defend his image and lengthy record of criminal charges and civil cases.

The thin-skinned King believes reporting by the Sun-Sentinel, this publication and other online outlets is part of a vast conspiracy by his political opponents.

“THEY WANT THIS DISTRICT 5 SEAT BAD,” King wrote.

In a graphic accompanying his post, King called himself a “fighter.”

DELVIN KING, A FIGHTER?

“YOU CAN ATTACK MY NAME. YOU CAN SEARCH THE COURTHOUSE,” King wrote. “BUT YOU CAN’T ERASE THE PEOPLE I’VE HELPED, THE STUDENTS I’VE SERVED, OR THE COMMUNITY I’VE FOUGHT FOR.”

The graphic said King “fought” for a bus loop, donated food and drinks to needy students and even organized a gun violence awareness event.

But on that January 2021 day, when a security guard repeatedly beat a student in his presence, King was no fighter.

Video shows the school security guard dragging the student into Principal Delvin King’s office.

Video shows the guard repeatedly shoving the student to the ground.

Video shows the guard sitting on the student in an attempt to place him in handcuffs.

And the video shows Principal Delvin King just sat on his ass and watched the beating.

King did not yell. King did not tell the armed security guard to stop. King did not ask other guards to intervene.

King just sat behind his desk.

A reporter for WPLG Channel 10 asked Delvin King why he just sat there and watched one of his students get beaten up by an armed security guard.

King said he “didn’t want to risk his [own] safety.”

Spoken like a true “fighter.”

He was afraid to protect a student in his care.

Delvin King watched in silence.

Delvin King sat behind his big desk in the corner of his large principal’s office while a grown man beat a teenager because he was out of uniform and did nothing.

That’s not the actions of a “fighter.”

That’s the behavior of a coward.

So, save the residents of Pompano Beach all the talk of fighting for them or standing up against special interests.

You had your chance.

On that day in January 2021, the universe gave Delvin King the opportunity to do the right thing.

King had a chance to be a fighter.

Delvin King did nothing.
