This morning at Port Everglades, Florida Governor Rick Scott broke ground on a major expansion project. The project will help deal with increased traffic expected once the Panama Canal expansion is complete.
The Port Everglades expansion is part of an effort to position Florida deep water ports ahead of ports in Virginia and elsewhere. This project will improve access to Port Everglades.
Planners expect the project to produce 135,000 jobs.
Broward County commissioner Chip LaMarca also attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
Governor Rick Scott has spent several days in south Florida; He has been delivering his job growth message in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
In an interview with WSVN-Miami, Scott stated his goal was to highlight the strengths of different regions of Florida. The ports are the main strengths of South Florida.

Probably the worse Governor we ever had, and only a few months into his term. If his re-election happened today, not only would he heavily lose the general election, he probably wouldn’t have won the Republican Primary.
It will take years to recover from what he has already cost Florida, and the voters will turn against Republicans in 2012 in Florida. So he better enjoy the powers he and the Legislature have with their Super Majority, cause it won’t last much longer.
Independent, obviously you didn’t read the article. This job alone is expected to gain 135,000 jobs in the State of Florida. Good Job Gov. Scott!
Do you think for a second he had anything to do with that? That project has been being developed for over 10 years. A lot of people have been working to get this done, including Governor Bush and Crist, and he was just lucky to be the Governor when they were finally able to start it. He didn’t do anything but show up to put a shovel in his hand. I am sure he will also take credit when I-595 is done which was mostly Governor Crist and to some extent Governor Bush. On that those Governors can be congratulated on, and Scott would have never supported.
Actually I’m surprised he didn’t try to kill Eller Drive like the one he did on the rail system between Orlando and Tampa, that eventually would have come to Miami. Probably didn’t have a chance to. Remind me, how many jobs did he kill then?
Face it. He hasn’t created anything, but he has destroyed plenty in only a few months in office. But if something happens that is good, he will take the credit when it isn’t his.
NOTE: When and if he does do something good, I will give him the credit, but it may be quite awhile before that happens.
