Two Broward State House races just got a bit more crowded. Robert Lee Lynch is seeking the Democrat nomination for the District 95 seat currently occupied by Rep. Hazelle Rogers. Lynch will face off against Roxanne Valies and Patrick Jabouin.

Lynch and his wife Ruth Roman Lynch are local Democrat consultants. In 2011, BrowardBeat.com exposed how Lynch and his wife, “Asked a judicial candidate last year for $1,000  to escort him through churches, give him ‘access’ to the black community and send out an e-mail blast to 2,500 voters.” At the time, Ruth Roman Lynch was the first vice chair of the Broward Democratic Party.

Sajan Kurian of Pompano Beach is seeking the Democrat nomination for the House 92 seat held by the term-limited Rep. Gwyn Clarke-Reed. Kurian is no stranger to Florida House politics. He serves as the district secretary for Rep. Shevrin Jones. His only opponent is Whitney Rawls of Pompano Beach.

Shevrin Jones Running For FL State House (District 101)

In an email to friends and supporters, Shevrin Jones has announced his bid for Florida State House (District 101):

“I am a firm believer that ‘in order to represent your community, you must first serve your community,’ and serving our community is nothing new to me, it is something that I have found to be an honor and privilege.

When I was asked to consider running for the Florida House from the newly re-designed District 101, it felt good to know that many in the community trusted my leadership enough to encourage me to represent them in Tallahassee.
As I pondered joining the race, the one thing I was reminded of was the definition of a servant leader – one who gives priority to the needs of those they serve, thus preparing the way for others to follow.

As I looked closer into this great opportunity, I could not help but remember the campaign for Broward County Commissioner, District 8 in 2010. Commissioner Barbara Sharief won that race, and now serves with distinction on the commission. I am proud that she is supporting me in this race for the District 101 State House seat. It speaks volumes about the positive campaigns we ran and the respect and civility we showed each other. I gained a great deal from that experience. I met concerned citizens, built life-long friendships and learned more about the needs of my community.

After graduating from Florida A&M University with a degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, I became an AP Chemistry teacher for the Broward County School System. In the classroom was where I found my passion for developing youth leaders and educating students.

After leaving the Broward County School System, I accepted the post of Biology instructor at Florida Atlantic University School, where I still have the opportunity to advance the knowledge of future leaders every day. I am also the Founder and Chairman of L.E.A.D. Nation and Chairman for the South Florida Youth Summit, which hosted our inaugural event this year where over 3000 youth and young adults were engaged and empowered to make their communities safer, to prepare for college, and develop leadership skills.

I am running because I can no longer sit back and watch committed teachers prepare the next generation and not be compensated fairly for their efforts. I can no longer sit back and allow politicians to vote on budgets that take money out of the homes of our working families. I can no longer sit back and
watch small businesses go under, while millions of dollars are poured into large corporations. Nothing will truly change until we send people to Tallahassee who will listen, develop realistic solutions, and be honest and fair.

I am a man of integrity and a man of my word. I make no promises that I can’t keep. As State Representative for District 101, I will be a champion for:
Better pay for teachers and an increase in youth programs
Affordable Housing and foreclosure relief
Economic Development & Small Business job creation
Ensuring Public Safety is restored to its essential role
I am an educator, a community activist, a husband, a son, and an uncle – more importantly, I am a resident of District 101 and I would be honored to represent YOU! THE TIME IS NOW!

Let’s bring NEW LEADERSHIP – In this NEW DISTRICT!

Your Next State Representative for District 101,

Shevrin D. Jones
