Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Jumps Into Crowded State House 95 Race

Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Barrington Russell has joined three other Democrats in the race to replace Hazelle Rogers in Tallahassee. On Tuesday, Russell filed his campaign paperwork for the Florida House of Representatives District 95 seat. First elected in 2008, Russell’s term as mayor ends later this year.

Russell joins a race already filled with Broward Democrat party activists and insiders. Patrick Jabouin, a BSO employee, has served as an official for many Democrat clubs targeting the Caribbean community. Robert Lynch, and his wife Ruth Roman Lynch, have been vendors on several Democrat campaigns. The controversial Roxanne Valies is closely tied to the term-limited State Rep. Hazelle Rogers.

Last April, REDBROWARD https://redbroward.com/2015/04/16/valies/ Valies residency issues. According to numerous Federal, State and local records, Roxanne Y. Valies does not live in District 95.

The Florida Constitution requires all state legislators to live in the House or Senate district they represent. Since 2013, this reporter has exposed numerous politicians violating the residency requirement. These politicians included State Sen. Maria Sachs, Rep. Lori Berman, Rep. Perry Thurston, Rep. Jared Moskowitz, Rep. Alan Williams, and Hazelle Rogers, the current representative of District 95.

Valies currently resides in House District 97, represented by Democrat Jared Moskowitz. According to the Broward County Property Appraiser (BCPA), Valies has owned a spacious Sunrise townhome since 1998. Valies receives the full Homestead tax exemption at this address.

BCPA records show Valies has owned a much smaller Lauderhill condominium since 2003.

While her official campaign documents filed with the State of Florida show a Tamarac address, voter registration websites show Valies is still registered to vote at her Sunrise home.

Corporate documents Valies filed with the State also use her Sunrise address.

Federal campaign records from 2012 and 2014 show Valies made contributions to the Obama Victory Fund and the Democrat Executive Committee of Florida. These contributions list Valies address in Sunrise.

Two Broward State House races just got a bit more crowded. Robert Lee Lynch is seeking the Democrat nomination for the District 95 seat currently occupied by Rep. Hazelle Rogers. Lynch will face off against Roxanne Valies and Patrick Jabouin.

Lynch and his wife Ruth Roman Lynch are local Democrat consultants. In 2011, BrowardBeat.com exposed how Lynch and his wife, “Asked a judicial candidate last year for $1,000  to escort him through churches, give him ‘access’ to the black community and send out an e-mail blast to 2,500 voters.” At the time, Ruth Roman Lynch was the first vice chair of the Broward Democratic Party.

Sajan Kurian of Pompano Beach is seeking the Democrat nomination for the House 92 seat held by the term-limited Rep. Gwyn Clarke-Reed. Kurian is no stranger to Florida House politics. He serves as the district secretary for Rep. Shevrin Jones. His only opponent is Whitney Rawls of Pompano Beach.
