Fort Lauderdale John Herbst denied “planting” listening devices at city hall at yesterday’s commission conference meeting. Herbst told the commission he was addressing a “vile rumor going around” that claimed he was under investigation for installing these devices. Herbst said the rumor was known to the Sun-Sentinel and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
“I am not involved in recording anything, anywhere, at anytime,” Herbst said.
Herbst said the people spreading these “lies” are “morally and ethically bankrupt.”
Less than an hour later, the Commission learned listening devices were indeed found at last week’s commission meeting at the Parker Playhouse. A vendor told residents and police that local attorney Barbra Stern hired her to install the devices.
As REDBROWARD previously reported, Barbra Stern represented John Herbst following his termination as city auditor. Last year, Herbst told REDBROWARD that Judy Stern, a lobbyist and Barbra Stern’s mother, helped with his campaign.
