Former State Representative Bobby DuBose is running for a seat on the Broward County Commission. DuBose gave up his seat in the State House to run for U.S. Congress. DuBose failed to place in top 3 of the Democrat primary to replace the late Alcee Hastings.
Last month, DuBose aide and campaign manager Daryl Campbell was elected to his former Florida House seat.
DuBose, a former Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner, faces another crowded primary for the District 8 County Commission seat.
His Democrat opponents include Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Robert McKinzie and Miramar Commissioner Alexandra Davis (D-Holness).
The Standing Up For Florida political committee wants early voters in Broward to “think before you ink.” While volunteers for the brand new political committee were greatly outnumbered by campaign workers for Democrat candidates in the US Congress CD 20 race, Standing Up For Florida has $10 million dollars in the bank.
State elections records show Standing Up For Florida was formed last month. The committee is based in Tallahassee, but its chairman, Rick Asnani of Cornerstone Solutions, is based in Palm Beach. Asnani is no stranger to Broward politics.
In 2013, REDBROWARD reported on Asnani’s role in the reauthorization of the Children’s Services Council.
Just days after their formation, Standing Up For Florida picked up a $10 million dollar contribution from the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
A handout from a “Think Before You Ink” volunteer urges Florida voters to reject two measures on the November 2022 ballot “that could change our constitution forever to allow out of control gambling in our state.” The handout claims out of state gambling companies would profit from these ballot measures.
Think Before You Ink warns Florida would turn into another Las Vegas which would “hurt Florida’s family-friendly image.”
