Tonight’s Plantation City Council began with a statement by Tim Fadgen. “Mayor Sortal has taken a leave to attend to some personal matters,” he said. According to the city charter, Fadgen assumed the role as Mayor on Monday following an announcement that Sortal would be seeking medical treatment.

On Monday, REDBROWARD reported Sortal admitted to an “opioid problem” during a 911 telephone call from a drug treatment center in Hollywood. Sortal told the Sun-Sentinel, “[I] chose a medical treatment that will require me to take a temporary leave of absence.”
