On Tuesday, REDBROWARD broke the news of Pompano Beach Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins’ vulgar attitude toward a Fort Lauderdale police officer who pulled her over speeding in April. After being told she would only receive a written warning, Perkins told the officer, “I am Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins of the City of Pompano Beach. Y’all need to find something better to fucking do.” Perkins sped away without waiting for the warning.
When contacted by REDBROWARD, Beverly Perkins denied cursing at the officer. Perkins said, “With all due respect. I never cursed or said that to the officer. I respect the law and he was just doing his job. The officer never issued me anything in writing. He just asked me to slow down and I did.”
On Friday night, WPLG Channel 10 attempted to speak with Perkins at her Pompano Beach residence. Even though her white Audi SUV was parked in the driveway, Perkins did not answer the door.
Also late Friday, the Fort Lauderdale Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) issued a statement via social media:
“Instead of attacking the hard-working Fort Lauderdale Police Department Officers and resorting to using profanity, we suggest you apologize and then sign up for some ride alongs to see what they do every day to protect the citizens of our great city.
As an elected official, you too are held to a higher standard and should know better. If that is not something you can bring yourself to do, we suggest you obey the speed limit and seek anger management. Furthermore, we would like to commend the FLPD Officer for his professionalism and dedication to duty in keeping our community safe.”
