Florida Senate passed a tough new immigration bill requiring strengthened e-verify process.
“TALLAHASSEE – Taking the first significant step in stopping illegal immigration in Florida, the Senate Judiciary Committee today approved legislation that requires employers to verify the residency status of all new hires. Senate bill 2040 requires that businesses use either the federal E-Verify system or an equally stringent state-issued identification verification system.
This is a Florida-specific solution to address the issue of illegal immigration in our state. Florida will step up and protect its citizens because the federal government has failed us,” said Senate President Mike Haridopolos. “With one out of eight Floridians out of work, we need to ensure businesses hire only those who are eligible to work in our state.”
