Judge Matt Destry Dumbfounded By Opponent’s Dismantling Of His Record

Broward County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Destry was dumbfounded when his opponent attacked his judicial record at a recent candidate forum at the African-American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale. The predominantly African-American audience cheered when attorney Barbara Duffy took Destry to task over his courtroom behavior and judicial decisions. Destry has been under fire for years for his courtroom antics and wildly inconsistent judicial reasoning.

Duffy told the crowd, “I come from a working class family. I know what it means to work hard. Bottom line, I’m running against Mr. Destry because I truly believe that everybody in this county, everybody in this room should be treated with respect.” The audience cheered when Duffy said, “If a judge requires you to show up in the courtroom at 8:30 in the morning, the judge should be there at 8:30 in the morning not 9:30 or 10 o’clock.” Courthouse insiders have complained Destry is chronically late to court. Destry claims he wants to give the lawyers time to settle in and talk among themselves.

Duffy continued, “Mr. Destry has been reversed thirteen times. That costs you money, it costs me money, and it’s a severe impact on justice being accomplished.”

One audience member said “wow” after Duffy finished her speech.

Judge Destry should not have been shocked by the audience response to his record. Thousands called for his removal from the bench over his harsh sentencing of Herbert Smith. Destry sentenced Smith to 60 years in prison even though the State Attorney only asked for 12 years. Judge Destry later reversed himself.

A shocked Destry told the crowd, “I’ve live and worked in this county for twenty years….I’ve been to the streets. You can’t sit on the criminal bench like I do…and not come under criticism. So, that’s the way it is.”

Judge Destry, Barbara Duffy, Abbe Rifikin and Harcourt Curry will be on the August ballot for the Group 15 seat.destry

Wikileaks: Debbie Wasserman-Schultz Used DNC To Create Outrage Over Broward GOP Chairman Remarks

Wikileaks released emails showing the Democratic National Committee (DNC) orchestrated the “outrage” over an off-color remark by Broward Republican Party Chairman Robert Sutton. Last April, Sutton told the Washington Post, “I think when Donald Trump debates Hillary Clinton she’s going to go down like Monica Lewinsky.” While Sutton later apologized for offending anyone, Wikileaks shows Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and the DNC immediately jumped into action to create phony outrage over his remark.

On April 28, 2016, Luis Miranda, DNC Communications Director, received an email from Mark Paustenbach, the DNC National Press Secretary. The subject line of his email read:

“Subject: chair wants to do a statement from the DNC denouncing this guy… a gop county chair…”

At the behest of Wasseman-Schultz, the DNC phony outrage machine jumped into action.

Emails show Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was “pushing for [action on the Sutton remark].” DNC operatives emails show Wasserman-Schultz was so involved, she even determined the order of the quotes to be included in the DNC press release.

“DWS wants them to go out in this order. Tom please send her final copy for her to review with her quote. These are final from Cynthia and Allison.”

On Friday, April 29th, DNC operatives worked on quotes condemning Sutton. But they had trouble finding someone to attribute the quote. A DNC operative told Luis Miranda that nobody was around due to the Passover holiday.

“The FDP [Florida Democratic Party] is closed today; emailed Max [Steele] but he’s probably not around given today is the last day of Passover. I can reach out to the Broward County Chair if you think she would be a good person to attribute the statement to.”

Even though Broward Democrat Chair Cynthia Busch was an afterthought to the DNC, she had already chimed in on the Sutton story. Busch gave a rather mild statement to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel rebuking the comment by Sutton. However, the DNC wordsmiths would eventually craft a nastier statement for Busch calling for Sutton’s resignation.

Team Hillary Wants Subject Dropped

While Debbie Wasseman-Schultz and the DNC gleefully blasted out their response to Bob Sutton’s remarks, it appears the Hillary Clinton campaign wanted to change the subject.  On Friday, April 29th, DNC research staffer Jeremy Brinster sent an email documenting Team Hillary’s feelings:

Research feels like we shouldn’t necessarily double down on this, since it gets into defense of HRC and it dredges up talk about Lewinsky that HFA [Hillary For America] probably doesn’t want to continue to focus on.”
