Carla Spalding, the Republican frontrunner the race to unseat Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Out Of Touch), tapped a Donald Trump campaign veteran to run her team. On Monday, Spalding announced Julio Martinez, Chairman of the 2016 Miami-Dade Donald Trump Presidential Campaign as her new campaign manger. Sources tell REDBROWARD that Spalding and Martinez attended the Miami-Dade Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner last Friday night.
Julio Martinez, former Mayor of the City of Hialeah said, “I have watched Carla Spalding with great interest over the last few months. Knowing President Donald J. Trump needs Republicans like her in Congress, I decided to team up with a fellow military veteran to help defeat Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.”
Carla Spalding and Julio Martinez are U.S. military veterans.
On Friday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported the Spalding campaign raised more money than Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Reporter Anthony Man wrote, “Carla Spalding has emerged as a new force in the universe of people who want to take down congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Spalding, who has styled herself as a passionate supporter of President Donald Trump…raised more money than Wasserman Schultz — and more than all of the other challengers combined.”
Spalding grabbed the frontrunner status from Carlos Reyes, a Broward attorney with longtime ties to former Governor Jeb Bush. “Reyes, who launched his campaign for the Republican nomination with a plan to raise millions of dollars, also has run into fundraising problems. He took in $49,252 in the most recent quarter — and spent more than double that amount. The only reason he showed a cash balance of $32,045 on March 31 is $33,000 of loans he gave his campaign during the first quarter.”
