Today, April 12th at 7PM, I am very grateful to announce that I will be joined by Dr. Alcee L. Hastings II and community leaders at 4325 W Sunrise Blvd. in Plantation, FL to determine my candidacy for Florida’s 20th Congressional District, which was held by my dear friend, Congressman Alcee Hastings.

I hope that you will be there to advise, guide, and support me as we embark on this journey together and build upon Alcee’s cherished legacy. I look forward to seeing you.

STATEMENT from Florida Senator Lauren Book (D-Broward) on the passing of Congressman Alcee Hastings, who represented Broward in Congress:

“Leading a life of public service, Congressman Alcee Hastings has left his beloved state of Florida better than he found it. Congressman Hastings broke barriers as he fought to advance civil rights as the first Black Federal Judge in the State of Florida and first Black Congressperson to represent Florida since the Civil War. I am grateful for the decades of advocacy Congressman Hastings provided for Floridians and offer my sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.”
