Tamarac Vice Mayor Asked Commission To Redirect $72,000 To Sunrise Church That Houses Her Private School

Vice Mayor Kicia Daniel

Last month, at the urging of Vice Mayor Kicia Daniel, Tamarac commissioners redirected up to $72,000 in public tax dollars from a well-established charity that assists senior citizens to a Sunrise church that houses her private Christian academy. Daniel asked commissioners to fund a food pantry the church operates under the “Dare To Care” name. Daniel complained that the Area Agency On Aging Of Broward County (ADRC) was not responsive to her staff. Daniel never disclosed her relationship with The Faith Center Church in Sunrise.

During the November 12, 2025 commission meeting, Vice Mayor Kicia Daniel asked commissioners to “split” the annual $72,000 payment the City made to ADRC with Dare To Care. Daniel said she has been “sending her residents to Dare To Care” for food assistance during the government shutdown.

When administrators said it may be impossible to take the money from ADRC, Daniel said “time for a change.”

Commissioner Marlon Bolton, a staunch Daniel ally, wanted to drag the ADRC before the Commission. He said the ADRC failed to correct a bedbug problem facing a local resident. Bolton said giving tax dollars to Dare To Care was a “no brainer.”

“Dare To Care is an amazing organization,” Bolton said. “They are deserving of getting assistance from the City to continue the work that they do.”

Bolton moved to halt all payments to ADRC until they make a presentation to the Commission. If the ADRC fails to prove their worthiness, the Commission voted to give the full $72,000 to Dare To Care. Only Mayor Michelle Gomez voted NO.

IMMACULATE RESULTS?

Vice Mayor Kicia Daniel, a retired Broward Schools principal operates the Immaculate Results Christian Academy in Sunrise. According to the school’s website, Immaculate Results Christian Academy is located at The Faith Center Church at the site of the former Sunrise Musical Center.

Tuition at Daniel’s kindergarten through eighth grade school is not cheap. According to the website, tuition is $10,000 per year. But scholarships are available.

REDBROWARD wanted to know why Kicia Daniel never disclosed her relationship with The Faith Center when she asked her fellow Commissioners to fund the Church’s food charity.

She has not responded to our request.

Why are Tamarac tax dollars are being sent to a Sunrise church?

Are Tamarac residents funding other activities of The Faith Center and Dare To Care?

I think that at least three of the Tamarac Commissioners were aware of Ms. Daniel’s connection to Dare to Care and the school. I don’t think anyone but the Mayor, Michelle Gomez, is familiar with The Area Agency on Aging, Broward County, (AAABC), a State of Florida entity. And what a shame that is, especially because they all agreed to fund them during budget negotiations. That shows you what they think of their responsibilities as members of the City of Tamarac Commission.

The Area Agency on Aging, Broward County provided meals for thousands of Broward County seniors during Covid, many of them in Tamarac. For more than a year, seniors received a week’s worth of healthy meals delivered to their doors. Some disabled residents, seniors and younger, also received meals. When no one else was out and about, AAABC employees and volunteers delivered meals. Eventually, professionals were able to take over those delivery duties.

On an ongoing basis, the Area Agency, (it was formerly known as the ADRC, Aging and Disability Resource Center), provides respite for those caring for their spouses, children, or others suffering from disabling conditions, from Dementia, Alzheimer’s, paralysis, etc. They also train caregivers so that they don’t, “Burn Out,” and so that they remember that they have to care for themselves first. Seniors who are unable to make minor repairs to their homes, ramps, grab bars in bathing facilities, non-working heaters or A/Cs are able to contact the AAABC for free assistance. Seniors and the disabled who are uninsured, or under-insured are able to select medical equipment, walkers, shower chairs, porta-potties, etc.

There are a thousand things more that the Area Agency on Aging, Broward County does to assist, protect, and serve the disabled and the senior population. I certainly hope that the Tamarac Vice Mayor and Commissioners make it their business to learn about those entities who are ALWAYS there to help others, regardless of Race, Creed, Color, Age, Ethnicity, or Gender. Perhaps they will then be able to make informed decisions.

As I’ve said, this is outrageous. Take money from seniors and disabled to give it to her church. And she also advertises Tanarac r taxpayers paid events to get school parents. See it’s Facebook page. It’s all so corrupt.
