The same reason that North Miami and North Miami Beach elected officials make everything about “their” country, Haiti.
None of these hyphenated-Americans give a crap about the actual country (or the cities, for that matter) in which they were elected to serve or the residents they are supposed to represent. They only concern themselves with their own “communities.” Unfortunately, if they have the votes on the dais, they can get away with using local tax dollars to fund events, charities, etc., that only benefit the residents of the respective countries they came from. The laws about municipal spending for a “public purpose” only are ignored, and none of the agencies tasked with enforcing those laws will do their jobs.
