New Broward School Board Candidate Creates Divide Among Plantation Democrats

The entrance of C. Rebecca Blackwood in the Broward School Board District 3 race is already dividing central Broward Democrats. District 3 stretches from Fort Lauderdale to Plantation. Democrat insiders say Blackwood, a Plantation resident, is an indication of the Democrat establishment’s uneasiness with longtime Democrat candidate Michael Levinson.

Levinson, a Plantation resident, has been campaigning for more than a year. He has appeared at many Democrat functions all over Broward county. Despite being a loyal Democrat soldier, Levinson now faces an uphill battle; Having two Plantation candidates will definitely create huge division among Democrats. Insiders are wondering who is backing Blackwood and what is the source of their displeasure with Mr. Levinson.

This is bound to hurt Democrats’ chances at holding Maureen Dinnen’s seat. School Board Member Katherine “Katie” Leach is running for the District 3 seat. Leach has become increasingly popular as many realize she is a tireless advocate for Broward students and teachers.

More to come…
