Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony Buys “RING[S]OF CHAMPIONS” For His Command Staff

In a stunning example of tone deafness, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony announced the purchase of gaudy “championship rings” for his command staff Monday morning. Tony blasted the announcement on video posted on Instagram. The bizarre announcement comes two weeks after Tony suspended multiple members of BSO for their mishandling of cases including a triple homicide in Tamarac.

Set to a song entitled “The Champ Is Here,” Tony’s video shows off the gaudy rings and his command staff posing with them. The accompanying text is titled “Ring of Champions: Leadership is a team sport.”

“My time as a collegiate athlete at FSU taught me invaluable lessons about the power of teamwork,” Tony wrote. “Discipline, sacrifice, work ethic, and perseverance shaped me then—and continue to guide me today.”

In 2023, REDBROWARD exposed how Sheriff Tony exaggerated his football career at Florida State University.

Since “strong leadership is the foundation any winning team,” Tony states he presented his executive directors with the “BSO’s Commanders Ring.” Tony states the ring is a “symbol of the victories we’ve achieved together.”

Tony says he is coming for NFL Hall Of Fame Quarterback Tom Brady’s record of seven Super Bowl rings.

Tony finishes with a message to his “haters.” He states no tax dollars or government funds were used to purchase these awards.”

Oh ok. Since Sheriff Tony brought up the purchase of these “awards,” how much did the rings cost?

Who paid for the rings?

Did Sheriff Tony make the purchase with his own money?

Were the rings a gift from a vendor, lobbyist or charity?

Sources say 6,000 to 8,000 cases languished in limbo due to an issue with BSO computer systems.

Is that an example of the strong leadership of Sheriff Tony and his command staff?

For months, a Tamarac neighborhood was terrorized by a stalker who repeatedly pointed a gun at residents. “BSO Tamarac has come out many times, and they brushed it off,” a resident said. The man was finally arrested last week.

Is this a example of the “work ethic” of Sheriff Tony and his commanders?

Even worse, four-year old Seraphina Gingles remains in custody of the State after her father murdered her mother, grandfather and an innocent neighbor.

Is that a “symbol of the victories” Tony and his executive directors achieved?

With so many mistakes and missteps, should Sheriff Tony and his commanders parade around like members of a Super Bowl winning team?

Last week, while discussing the Tamarac murders with lawmakers, Sheriff Gregory Tony said “I own it.”

Tony talks a good game.

He needs to act like it.

Return those rings.

Use the money for something good.

Maybe start a college fund for little Seraphina Gingles.

King Tide Mess: Fort Lauderdale Official Admits Tidal Valves Cause Street Flooding Twice A Day

ICYMI:

King Tides or Bad Plumbing?

As you sit in standing water on local roads or watch helplessly as water creeps toward your home, remember our stories from June where City of Fort Lauderdale Public Works Assistant Director Nancy Gassman admits the installation of tidal valves in drainage pipes causes street flooding during high tide.

And high tide happens twice a day.

Our original stories from June:

Fort Lauderdale Official Admits Tidal Valves Cause Flooding

June 11, 2023

WATCH City of Fort Lauderdale Assistant Public Works Director Nancy Gassman admit her tidal valve strategy causes flooding. After REDBROWARD posted this video, the official City of Fort Lauderdale YouTube channel commented.

They wrote, “Tidal valves had no impact on the April 2023 flooding in the City of Fort Lauderdale. When there is a rain event during a high tide, tidal valves remain closed to prevent tidal water from backing up into the storm drain system and flooding city streets. Once the tide recedes, the tidal valves are able to reopen and allow fresh rainwater to discharge into waterways.

Fort Lauderdale Asst. Public Works Director Told Civic Leaders Streets Will Flood Because Rainwater Cannot Drain During High Tide

June 12, 2023

So, if it’s raining during a high tide, there’s no way for that water from the sky to get out of that street,” Gassman said. “Give it a few minutes, give it a few hours. As the high tide goes out that storm water is going to go out.”

Wait a few hours for flood waters to recede? This is exactly what happened to thousands of car owners, homeowners and travelers at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport who were impacted by the April 2023 flooding.

While our initial story never blamed the April 2023 flooding on tidal valves, how does the City Of Fort Lauderdale Youtube account know they had “no impact” on the flooding?

According to the City’s Youtube channel and its resilience program architect, tidal valves cause street flooding when it rains during high tide.

High tide occurs twice a day.

The City is well on its way to having nearly five hundred tidal valves installed across Fort Lauderdale.

Why is the assistant public works director seemingly okay with prolonged street flooding across Fort Lauderdale?

Does the City Of Fort Lauderdale Public Works Department prioritize resiliency programs and sea level rise over homeowners, business owners and drivers?

More to come…
