Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief shared opposition research on her opponent with Broward County lobbyists. REDBROWARD obtained emails sent from Sharief’s personal email account sharing research into the spending habits of Miramar City Commissioner Alexandra Davis. In 2014, Davis challenged Sharief for the District 8 seat.
On August 11, 2014, Sharief sent an email to Samantha Senne, Ashley Walker and an unknown individual at Patriot Games Consulting in West Palm Beach. Sharief shared documents she acquired from the city of Miramar regarding “unfunded events” hosted by Alexandra Davis. Before joining the County Commission in 2010, Sharief served on the Miramar commission.
Three days later, Sharief sent another email to Senne, Walker and Patriot Games. Again, Sharief shared research regarding Davis’ unfunded events. Both emails contained the same signature:
“Barbara Sharief M.S.N., A.R.N.P-President
South Florida Pediatric Homecare Inc.”
Yesterday, REDBROWARD reported the close ties between Sharief, the lobbyists and a mysterious political committee known as, “Friends For A Better Broward, Inc.”
During 2014 campaign against Alexandra Davis, Sharief paid Rosa Mendoza nearly $14,000 to be her “director of campaign operations.”
Sharief paid nearly $30,000 to Mercury Affairs of New York for “mailers.” While Sharief listed the Mercury Affairs New York office on her campaign financial reports, former Obama campaign operative Ashley Walker serves as the managing director of Mercury’s Fort Lauderdale office. Published reports stated Walker ran Sharief’s campaign.
Commissioner Sharief paid $4,690.94 to Brian Goldmeier’s BYG Strategies of Miami.
Campaign financial reports show The Friends For A Better Broward, Inc. paid all three members of Sharief’s political team.
Rosa Mendoza was paid $5,000 for “field assistance.” BYG Strategies was paid $1,100 for “professional services.” Walker’s Mercury Public Affairs received $5,500 for “consulting/professional services.”
According to its website, Mercury Public Affairs’ Fort Lauderdale office is located at 1512 East Broward Blvd, Suite 101.
In January 2014, this reporter revealed several local lobbyists were sharing office space located at 1512 East Broward Blvd. Floridian Partners is located at the same address as Mercury Public Affairs. Lobbyist Russ Klenet, husband of Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter used the same office space as well.
Ritter’s 2012 financial disclosure form, filed June 24, 2013, was notarized by Samantha Senne, a lobbyist with the Floridian Partners.
According to Broward County employment records, Senne served as Ritter’s aide from December of 2008 until January of 2010. Campaign treasurer reports show Ritter paid Senne nearly $9,000 for “professional services” during her 2012 campaign.
According to State of Florida records, Friends For A Better Broward, Inc. filed corporation paperwork in March 2014. The official paperwork was notarized by Samantha Senne.
Walker and Goldmeier are well-known campaign operatives. Other than working on Ritter’s previous campaigns, Senne is known mainly as a lobbyist. She recently lobbyied before Sharief on behalf of Uber.
Also unclear is the role the “Friends For A Better Broward, Inc.” played in the 2014 election.
