The Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel now reporting on a statement issued by the mother of D.N. the transgender volleyball player at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek. Earlier today, REDBROWARD revealed the student, with parents at her side, spoke to the Broward School Board during a 2017 public meeting. Even though the child was just ten years old, District officials used her name.
In her statement today, D.N.’s mother claims the naming of her daughter is dangerous. “There is a long history in this country of outing people against their will — forced outing, particularly of a child, is a direct attempt to endanger the person being outed,” she said. “We kindly ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy, and to give our family the space we need to speak to our experience on our own terms and timeline.”
The District posted pictures of the transgender family on its social media accounts. (REDBROWARD continues to obscure images of minor and not publish her name)
In addition to the School Board speech, the mother used her full name in a Sun-Sentinel story about an award she received for transgender advocacy. The mother was part of the 2017 Pride Center Diversity Honors ceremony. The mother posed for pictures with her husband and two children.
All images are still posted on social media and the Sun-Sentinel website.
