Poor Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed of Deerfield Beach. According to The Buzz of The Tampa Bay Times, Representative Clarke-Reed is miffed that another redistricting meeting was cancelled.
“‘I get up here today and I find out when I got here that my meeting for tomorrow has been canceled …,” said Rep. Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed, D-Deerfield Beach, and member of the House redistricting subcommittee. ‘But we come up here and it is strenous. I want to tell you, it is not easy for people, particularly coming from South Florida, to get here to Tallahassee. And I’m just concerned with the amount of money that’s being expended. We’ve got all these deficits and what have you, but we’re able to spend all this money coming back and forth and nothing happening.’ “
Gwyn, Is it really that ‘strenous”? Thousands of FSU, FAMU and TCC students make the trek to Tallahassee all the time. Sure, most of them don’t fly first class to Atlanta to avoid prop planes. And, yeah, most of them don’t stay at boutique hotels and dine at Andrew’s or Chez Pierre.
So take the bargain trip. Hop in a car…turnpike to I-75 to I-10. Eat a big breakfast before you go. Pick up a Publix sub in Ocala or maybe a dozen Krystal burgers. Visit some old friends in Gainesville. That should cut down on all your stress.
Better idea…don’t run for re-election. You’d never have to set foot in Tally again.
