Organization Funded By Broward County Government And Visit Lauderdale Co-Hosts Political Event With Pro-Hamas Socialist Group

A local organization sponsored by the Broward County Government Cultural Division and the Visit Lauderdale tourism board co-hosted a left-wing political event with a pro-Hamas socialist organization on Saturday. Destination Sistrunk and Broward Democratic Socialists Of America (DSA) hosted the “Reading Aloud” event in Fort Lauderdale. One day later, the Broward DSA and its members joined a large pro-Palestine march in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The event came three weeks after Hamas massacred nearly 2,000 Israeli men, women and children.

In the days following the Hamas attacks, the Broward County Commission unanimously passed a resolution supporting Israel. However, the Democratic Socialists of America and other far-left groups spoke out against Israel. Even some longtime DSA members were shocked by the group’s pro-Hamas sentiments.

Michigan Congressman Shri Thanedar “officially renounced his DSA membership, saying in a statement Wednesday that he won’t ‘associate with an organization unwilling to call out terrorism in all its forms.’” Even far-left New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman left the DSA.

The New York DSA was forced to back off it’s support Hamas. According to POLITICO, the NY DSA “noted it didn’t organize or sponsor the rally, which was not attended by any elected officials.”

BROWARD DSA

On the same day Hamas launched attacks on innocent Israelis, the Broward DSA urged supporters to attend a pro-Palestine rally the next day. That rally lead to violent encounters between pro Hamas and pro-Israel supporters in the middle of Sunrise Boulevard.

Over the last three weeks, the Broward DSA and fellow Reading Aloud hosts, Broward Dream Defenders, have repeatedly posted pro-Hamas rally information along with socialist propaganda.

Nearly every pro-Palestine rally promoted by these socialists features protestors chanting the now-familiar “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

Earlier this month, Broward County Commissioner Steve Geller addressed this chant.

“We have a lot of people who frequently talk about or they chant the slogan, from the mountains to the sea, Palestine will be free,” Geller continued. “If you unpack that mountains to the ocean, that they’re describing the State of Israel when they are chanting that they’re actually calling for the destruction of the State of Israel.”

Why is an organization sponsored by Broward County Government and Visit Lauderdale hosting any event with these types of groups?

Why are tax dollars and tourist dollars being used to host political events in Broward County?

Why is any organization sponsored by Broward County Government and Visit Lauderdale associated with a group supporting calls for “intifada” in Florida?

Black Lives Matter Alliance Wants Voters To Defund The Police By At Least $100 Million Dollars

What will Mayor Dean Trantalis do?

The Broward-based “Black Lives Matter Alliance” wants Fort Lauderdale voters to “defund the police” by at least $100 million dollars. Stating it is “autonomous” from the National Black Lives Matter group, this local alliance is made up of far-left groups such as the Broward Democratic Socialists of America and the Broward Dream Defenders. Yesterday, REDBROWARD revealed the alliance’s demand for funding from Broward County, the City of Hallandale Beach and the City of Fort Lauderdale. The alliance wants Mayor Dean Trantalis and his fellow commissioners to “divest” $10 million dollars from the Fort Lauderdale Police budget.

But the demand does not stop there.

In a fundraising plea on its website, the Black Lives Matter Alliance Broward wants $100 million dollars from the City of Fort Lauderdale.

On May 31, a protest planned in Lauderhill was cancelled after city leaders failed to recruit sufficient police support for a large gathering. With less than two hours notice, the protest was moved to Bubier Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale. According to the Black Lives Matter Alliance, “After our action ended, protesters were making their way home when police escalated violence. The Ft. Lauderdale Police Department shoved one black woman on the ground and shot another one in the head with a rubber bullet.” The actions of the police were condemned by Mayor Dean Trantalis.

In retaliation, Black Lives Matter Alliance posted a series of demands.

“We are calling on the Ft. Lauderdale City Commission to become visionary leaders and defund the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department and invest in community-based solutions to keep black, indigenous and communities of color safe,” the alliance wrote.

These demands include:

  1. To never again vote to increase police funding or to increase the police department’s budget.
  2. To protect and expand current investment in community led-health strategies (such as investing in doula care, restorative justice, and an additional stimulus to Ft. Lauderdale residents).
  3. To propose and send to municipal vote for a $100 million reallocation of money that was allocated from the General Obligation Bond for Public Safety in March of 2019 for a new Police Headquarter replacement project and instead invest those resources in community-led and identified measures. This cut is a response to safety shortfalls and failures.
  4. To propose and vote on Tuesday, June 16th on an immediate 10% cut to the 102 million police department budget.

What will Mayor Dean Trantalis do?

Will he back the Fort Lauderdale Police?

Or, will Mayor Dean Trantalis side with Broward socialists by chopping $100 million from the police budget?
