The City of Fort Lauderdale wants to build fifty to one hundred “pallet homes” for the homeless in an unincorporated area bordering the City of Plantation. Staff presented the idea at a Fort Lauderdale Commission workshop Tuesday afternoon. Pallet homes are small wooden shacks. The City would place them in the Broadview Park neighborhood along Peters Road.
Broadview Park is across the street from Plantation’s Country Club Estates and the Fort Lauderdale Country Club and Golf Course.
Fort Lauderdale owns a large parcel of land in the Broadview Park neighborhood. In 2022, the Fort Lauderdale Housing Authority planned on building 600 workforce apartments on the land.
According to today’s presentation, a small parcel of unused land could accommodate the pallet homes.
The Mayor of Fort Lauderdale said the City’s proposal was forwarded to the Broward County Commission two weeks ago. The County has not responded.
Local governments are working on plans ahead of the new anti-public camping laws which take effect October 1st.
As REDBROWARD reported last week, a homeless encampment continues to grow at the Broward County West Regional complex at the intersection of Pine Island Road and Broward Boulevard.
Will the Mayor of Plantation allow the County and the City of Fort Lauderdale to build a homeless shanty town near Plantation neighborhoods?

Wondering Where does the City of Fort Lauderdale’s staff lives that presented this idea?
I live in County Club Estates (East Plantation) and pay over $5000 in property taxes each year. There goes our beautiful neighborhood, I’ll be moving.
yeahhhh there goes the neighborhood thanks to the demoncrats
They really dropped the ball on this one. I would’ve expected them to do it across from Mar-A-Lago and then accuse Trump of hating the homeless for not allowing it. Either way, they’ll probably still blame this on Trump anyway 🤣
First
First are any or all American Citizens? If not citizen send them home .
Officials don’t seem to want to take care of this problem across the U S A ..
In the 40’s quintet homes were built not in parks , or in the .Middle of
neighbor hoods , on open land , plenty in Fl. and other cities .
If you want a look into the future of what this cess pool will look like, take a drive down Broward Boulevard between 27th Avenue and 31st Avenue. The trash, the poop, the urine, the smell, the drugs, prostitution, stabbings, fights, will all make their way to your nice, working class neighborhood. And yes, a large percentage will be illegals living off your tax dollars while Americans are left out. Fight this with all you have! If you don’t, you’ll regret it. Good luck selling. Your property values are tanking. Don’t count on FLPD patrolling this pocket of land, far removed from the actual city limits.
let’s not let Florida become like California or NYC. This is disgusting
Like the gentleman said before, are they citizens? If not, send them back, if they are, put them to work, give them something to do. Why the heck we pay so much taxes if is not to help OUR state? Oh wait….it is been sent to Ukraine, Israel and paying the salaries of Congress than do nothing and everyone in government.
Debbie Wasserman can use them to hang her communist literature on local door handles. The DNC should be proud of this accommodation

I wish all the the naysayers and NIMBYs had to live on the streets for a month. It might change their perspective. Where is the compassion Americans used to be known for?
COMPASSION? Let them stay in your house! That would be compassionate. In fact, sell your house to buy them some apartments and food.
whose gonna ask Plantation Commissioner Louis Reinstein about his plan? Scuttlebutt around town is he wants to run for Mayor against Sortle next year.
None of these democrats come out against the poor enforcement of our borders, the Biden Harris regime encouraging, allowing and facilitating illegal aliens entering and staying in our country, and sanctuary cities. DNC and the democrats love it, even if they need to pay some minor lip service to NIMBY
they can’t seem to leave any empty land alone for drainage. they should buld that camp in the everglades and get all those homeless folks away from out neighborhoods. we can’t walk in the 7 eleven without being harassed by 5 homles as we sit . I can only guess how bad we would distroy our neighbor.
HOW ABOUT a bus ticket back to their homeland?
Send them to the Mayor’s neighborhood and any city official that is for this garbage. I’ve worked my fingers to the bone to make sure my children live in a nice and clean neighborhood.
The mayor asks you to sacrifice yourself because you live amongst democrats and this shall be your destiny.
Upon reviewing the map, it is clear to me that Mr. D’s Pizza is going to sell a lot of slices!
This is a terrible idea.
WE ALL NEED TO SPEAK UP LOUDLY.
We don’t need this in Florida, and not in Broward. Don’t just object if it’s your back yard!
Who have you sent this too? Who have you shared this with Who is also against this? What are you doing about it?
I am homeless and let me tell you I’m not a dirty person I’m just down on my luck so not everybody’s drug addicts and prostitutes that are homeless why don’t people be kind and try to help people help them get jobs feed them you people are very selfish and you all disgust me stop stereotyping people
I am sure if you apply yourself you will be employed in no time. Praying for you. Maybe you should be upset at the invasion of illegal aliens that the Biden Harris regime is soliciting, enticing, allowing, and funding instead of addressing Americans suffering from Bidenomics, homelessness, the drug crisis, and mental illness.
This sounds like a great idea.

Enough is Enough….I’m voting Barbra Stern for Mayor and Chad Van Horn for District Commissioner. Gotta get rid of these corrupt politicians.
