With Call For “Unity,” Broward School Board Member Lori Alhadeff Mimics Supporters Of Robert Runcie

Lori Alhadeff

Last week, as some of her colleagues moved to fire the Broward School Board attorney Marylin Batista, Board Chair Lori Alhadeff called for “unity.” She told the Sun-Sentinel, “In our roles as Broward County School Board members, we offer nine voices and varying perspectives, but it’s paramount that we operate as a unified force.” She said, “By working together as a united front and pooling our resources, we can create real momentum and deliver tangible improvements for our district.” Her comments sound like those used by supporters of Robert Runcie two years ago.

Following the most tragic day in Broward Schools history, Alhadeff was elected to be a disruptive force on the School Board. Alhadeff called for the termination of then-Superintendent Runcie. Broward politicos and business types defended Runice. They called for “unity” when Runcie was indicted on perjury charges by a Grand Jury.

Runcie supporters dismissed Alhadeff and other Parkland families as self-interested boat rockers who failed to see the good Runice did for Broward.

Shameless. It was hogwash.

Now, Alhadeff calls for unity to quiet the boat rockers on the Board who want to terminate the contract of Marylin Batista.

For more than twenty years, Batista has occupied a seat in the School Board’s Office of Legal Counsel.

Batista was there for the Grand Juries, the CCC lawsuit, MSD and the current charter schools case.

So, spare us the “all the good she does” party line Chairman Alhadeff and friends.

It was shameless to protect the status quo to save Runcie.

It is time for a cleansweep at KC Wright.
