Florida High School Athletic Association Issues Punishment To Monarch High School Over Transgender Volleyball Player

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has sanctioned and fined Monarch High School for allowing a transgender female to play on its female volleyball team. As first reported by The Daily Signal, the FHSAA delivered its findings regarding violations of the Fairness In Women’s Sports Act. Last month, Broward School Superintendent Peter Licata reassigned the Monarch High School principal, assistant principal and three other officials for allowing “D.N.” to play on the team while her parents sued the school district and the Florida Board of Education.

In its letter, the FHSAA officially reprimanded Monarch High, placed the school on administrative probation through November 2024 and issued a $16,500 fine.

Additionally, the school will host an FHSAA compliance seminar which officials must attend.

The FHSAA also ruled D.N. was ineligible to represent any member school from November 2023 to November 2024.

On social media, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. thanked the FHSAA for its prompt handling of the matter.

Diaz wrote, “Thanks to @GovRonDeSantis, Florida passed legislation to protect girls’ sports and we will not tolerate any school that violates this law. We applaud the swift action taken by the @FHSAA to ensure there are serious consequences for this illegal behavior.

It is telling that several of the “authorities” that were exiled over this matter were entirely unaware that the CHILD referenced in the article was transgendered. They knew her as a GIRL, which is what she is. One of the people involved said, (not an exact quote), that she was one of the team, she wasn’t an outstanding or remarkable athlete, just a member of the team.

I understand what the law is. I think it is more than regrettable, that a State Government actually stooped to this level of political greed. The governor and legislature should be charged with child abuse for their disgusting enactment of such a law. The damage to this child with this involuntary “outing” and banishment from a sport in which she has participated for years, is despicable. I am ashamed of those Florida State Government officials who bent to kiss DeSantis’ ring.
