Margate Man Arrested After Placing Dead Animals On Marjory Stoneman Douglas Memorial, Obsessed With American Horror Story And “Blood Smell”

Robert Mondragon

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) arrested Robert Mondragon for placing dead ducks, raccoons and opossum on a memorial near Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Earlier this summer, officials discovered mutilated animals left at the site. Detectives determined a white Nissan Sentra with illegal tinted windows was nearby on each occasion.

On July 31, 2022, BSO deputies stopped a white Nissan Sentra near MSD. Mondragon, a Margate resident, was behind the wheel. When asked about the bird feathers and blood on the passenger seat, Mondragon said he likes “the metal and blood smell that emit from the dead animal.”

BSO detectives said Mondragon’s facial tattoos are similar to tattoos worn by an American Horror Story character. The character appears in a storyline dealing with a school shooting.

Detectives also found “text messages about school shootings and internet searches about school shooters, how to break into steel doors, shootings involving multiple victims, pipe bombs, as well as slang terms for killing cops. Further concerning evidence revealed that two weeks before the end of the 2021/2022 school year, Mondragon walked the path the MSD school shooter took from the high school to Walmart on Feb. 14, 2018.”

BSO says Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco And Firearms (ATF) agents are pursuing possible federal charges against Mondragon.
