Earlier we reported political newcomer Christopher D. Warnig wants to be Chip LaMarca’s Democrat opponent for the Broward Commission District 1 race. After spending a few minutes researching the internets, we came across Warnig’s brush with the law in 2011. Young Mr. Warnig was arrested for some seriously felonious action:

Benton teen faces multiple charges for allegedly initiating traffic stops on three female motorists between June and Sunday, state police at Bloomsburg said Saturday.

Christopher Donald Warnig is accused of using red and blue emergency lights installed on his silver 2011 Volkswagen Jetta to initiate the three stops, troopers said, during which he was allegedly wearing a blue emergency medical technician uniform. He is a volunteer EMT and fireman, troopers said.

Warnig was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Ola E. Stackhouse, Millville, on three counts each of false imprisonment, impersonating a public servant and disorderly conduct and two counts of displaying improper lights. He was released on $50,000 unsecured bail and faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Columbia County.

We reached out to Warnig for his side of the story. He told RED BROWARD that his record had been “sealed and expunged.” Um, yeah ok. He said he was doing a “ride along” with an officer as part of an internship in Benton police. Warnig said a woman stopped for a traffic infraction recognized him and reported that he shouldn’t have been part of the stop. He said the Chief of Police and the officer were fired and the mayor was fined for allowing him to interact with the woman. Warnig said all charges were dropped.

Ok. Sounds plausible. Warnig went on to list some campaign ideas regarding pit bulls, right to work laws and domestic partnerships.

Only thing Warnig failed to mention was his FEBRUARY 2013 arrest for FALSELY IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER. Warnig was arrested by Wilton Manors Police for falsely impersonating a police officer, possession of a handcuff key and unlawful use of police badges.

Uh oh.

Warnig told RED BROWARD, “everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”

Warnig swears no politicians or consultants encouraged him to jump into the race. He said he has the support of rank and file Democrats and Republicans. The notion that Ken Keechl will challenge Chip LaMarca is one of Broward’s worst kept secrets. Perhaps someone wants Warnig to be next year’s Louis Granteed (D-Shill). Stay Tuned…

For now, enjoy this May 18, 2013 picture of Mr. Warnig with Wilton Manors Chief Of Police Paul O’ Connel.
