Broward School Funded By Group Chaired By “Senior Party Member” Of Chinese Communist Party

Fred Hu Zuliu

The chairman of a company funding the Sagemont Preparatory school in Weston was labeled a “senior member” of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The Financial Times said Fred Hu Zuilu, chairman of the Primavera Captial Group, was a “senior party member” of the CCP. On Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis suspended the use of school choice scholarships at Sagemont over ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

On Saturday, Sagemont Preparatory denied any ties to the Chinese government. In a statement to the Sun-Sentinel, a Sagemont spokesperson wrote, “We are regularly acknowledged as one of the best private schools in our area and have a track record of delivering outstanding educational outcomes, which is why parents choose us,” the statement said. “Our schools are locally run, abide by local, state and federal laws, and do not have ties to any government or political party, either foreign or domestic. Our curriculum is accredited, standards-based and academically rigorous.”

However, The Sagemont Preparatory website states “it is part of Spring Education Group. Spring Education, the website says, ‘is controlled by Primavera Holdings Limited, an investment firm (together with its affiliates) principally based in Hong Kong with operations in China, Singapore, and the United States, that is itself owned by Chinese persons residing in Hong Kong.’”

According to numerous published reports, Hu, a former partner at Goldman Sachs, held multiple academic and business positions usually reserved for senior CCP members.

REDBROWARD revealed Hu wrote numerous pro-Chinese Communist Party editorials in the South China Morning Post.

Hu and Primavera Capital own and operate The Princeton Review which provides tutoring, testing and college admission resources to students across the United States.

Chairman Of Group Funding Weston School Wrote Pro-Chinese Communist Party Editorials, Said America Should Be A “Good Loser”

As REDBROWARD reported Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis suspended use of school choice scholarships at the Sagemont Preparatory school in Weston. DeSantis said the suspension was due to the schools’ ties to the Chinese Communist Party. Sagemont Preparatory denied any undue Chinese influence.

Spring Education, the website says, ‘is controlled by Primavera Holdings Limited, an investment firm (together with its affiliates) principally based in Hong Kong with operations in China, Singapore, and the United States, that is itself owned by Chinese persons residing in Hong Kong.’”

Primavera Capital Chairman Fred Hu writes pro-Chinese Communist Party (CCP) editorials in the South China Morning Post.

In one editorial, Hu wrote Hong Kong must not resist Chinese Communist power. “The rapidly deteriorating situation is a cause for alarm. To get out of the downward spiral, Hong Kong must end the politics of reckless confrontation and seek pragmatic accommodation with Beijing and reconciliation within the city,” Hu wrote.

In another Hu urged the United States to drop high tariffs on Chinese companies during the COVID lockdown. “Despite its extraordinary size, there is a glaring flaw in the US economic package – a failure to lift the high tariffs the US has imposed, before the Covid-19 outbreak, against its most important trading partners, notably China. Continued tariffs will undercut the effectiveness of the US’ efforts to contain the economic fallout of this crisis,” Hu wrote.

In 2019, Hu wrote that Serena Williams threw a “tantrum” at the US Open because she lost to an Asian player. “Just as disturbing were the boos from the crowd during the trophy ceremony, and the US Tennis Association statement congratulating Williams for her ‘class and sportsmanship,” Hu wrote. “despite the obvious fact that there was precious little of either on display.” The editorial urged the United States to be a “good loser.”

In 2018, Hu urged America to “relax” over fears that the CCP controlled Chinese tech companies.
