Far-Left Outsiders Still Funding Takeover Coral Springs Commission

Nancy Metayer’s latest run for a seat on the Coral Springs city commission is overwhelmingly fueled with contributions from progressives who do not live in the City of Coral Springs, records show. Metayer, a young “climate justice organizer,” is running for Seat 3 against four other candidates. In 2019, Metayer came in a close second for the race to be Mayor. Both campaigns were primarily funded by far-left groups and local politicians.

Metayer’s 2019 mayoral campaign received numerous contributions from progressive groups like Common Voices, Alliance For A Better Community, FLIC Votes, SEIU and Ruth’s List. None of these groups are located in Coral Springs. Metayer had the support of controversial politicians like Broward Dale Holness, Tamarac Commissioner Mike Gelin and Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana.

According to Metayer’s campaign reports, only 30 contributions came from Coral Springs. Over 90% of her 304 contributions were made from people and groups from outside Coral Springs city limits.

In a stark contrast, Metayer was defeated by Scott Brook who received 53 percent of his campaign contributions from Coral Springs residents.

The numbers for Nancy Metayer’s 2020 campaign are similar. As of August 2020, Metayer reports 515 contributions to her city commission campaign. Just 63 contributions come from Coral Springs residents. Outsider contributions make up nearly 86% of Nancy Metayer’s support.

Metayer received contributions from Tamarac Commissioner Marlon Bolton and Plantation Councilwoman Denise Horland. She received campaign support from failed Broward State Attorney Joe Kimok, who wanted to decriminalize hard drugs.

Metayer received funding from Dwight Bullard and the New Florida Majority political committee which is conducting operations in support of Joe Biden and the Democrats. She received contributions from Ithohan “Stephanie” Ighodaro whose “Hard Knock Strategies” received $6 million dollars from George Soros’ Win Justice PAC.

Metayer received numerous contributions from politicians calling for defund of the police like Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana and Mike Gelin of Tamarac.

Metayer received support from Jasmen Rogers-Shaw, a founder of the local Black Lives Matter (BLM). Metayer attended several BLM/Dream Defenders protests this summer.

But Metayer is not the only Coral Springs candidate with backing from the far left.

STACKING THE CORAL SPRINGS COMMISSION

In 2018, Joshua Simmons, a Broward school teacher, beat incumbent Coral Springs Commissioner Lou Cimaglia. Despite being a political novice, Simmons managed to collect nearly $32,000 in campaign contributions. Simmons received contributions from MoveOn.org, Emerge (Emgage), and Latino Victory US. Simmons had the financial support of politicians like Rep Alcee Hastings (D-FL), Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland), Broward School Board Member Rosalind Osgood, and Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness.

None of these politicians represent the City of Coral Springs.

According to the reports, more than 75% of Josh Simmons’ campaign contributions came from outside the City of Coral Springs.

Simmons used Holness Consulting, a company owned by Damara Holness, as his campaign consultant.

In the 2019 City Commission race, candidate Khurrum Wahid showed numbers similar to Nancy Metayer. For the June 18, 2019 seat 2 election, Khurrum Wahid reported 202 total contributions. Only 21 of the contributions came from Coral Springs. Ninety percent (181) of Wahid’s contributions were made by entities outside Coral Springs.

Why are progressive groups and outside interests flooding Coral Springs elections with money? What do they want in return? What happens to the Coral Springs Police Department if Simmons and Metayer try to “defund the police?”

Sun Sentinel Editor-In-Chief: “The Reporter Didn’t Apologize” To Khurrum Wahid Campaign

Last week, REDBROWARD revealed a Broward elected official falsely claimed the Sun-Sentinel apologized for running a biography of Khurrum Wahid, a candidate for the Coral Springs city commission. Alissa Jean Schafer, a member of the Broward Soil & Water Board, claimed the newspaper apologized for correctly stating Wahid’s legal representation of terror suspects. Schafer even claimed a fact-filled story about Wahid’s legal work could lead to violence.

Lisa Huraish, the Sun-Sentinel reporter who wrote the Wahid story, quickly responded. Huraish categorically denied any apology was made. She wrote, “ I just want to set the record straight here. Yes, we did update the story after a candidate, Khurrum Wahid, issued a response, including why he has represented terrorism suspects. We did this out of fairness, to provide more explanation and context. The first story was accurate, and we never apologized for it. That’s the full truth.

The Khurrum Wahid campaign never responded to our requests for comment.

Last night, REDBROWARD caught up with Wahid and Schafer at a candidate forum in Coral Springs.

Schafer doubled-down In her claims the Sun-Sentinel issued an apology. When asked why she claimed an apology was made, Schafer said, “Why? I have an email showing she did.” Schafer then laughed while running away from our camera.

We showed our video to Julie Anderson, the Editor-in-Chief of the Pulitzer Prize winning South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Anderson said,”The reporter didn’t apologize for her story. We reiterate that it was accurate.”

The Wahid campaign is paying Schafer and her Copper Stamp Strategy company for communication consulting. Is this the type of communications Wahid would approve if elected? Even more troubling, Schafer worked for current Coral Springs Commissioner Joshua Simmons. Will voters be able to trust what commissioners say if Alissa Schafer keeps spewing fake news?

Coral Springs voters deserve the truth before the June 18, 2019 election.
