At a webinar hosted by ultra-left wing socialist activists, Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana called her city’s police officers “disgusting.” Javellana sent a video to be played during a ZOOM meeting host by Broward Democratic Socialist of America and the Broward Dream Defenders. The meeting discussed the groups’ actions to reach their goal of the “abolition of the police.”

In her video, Javellana mocks the resignation of officers from the Hallandale Beach S.W.A.T. team after she knelt with Black Lives Matter protestors last month. Javellana complained “hundreds of thousands of dollars are wasted on SWAT” for training, overtime and gear. Javellana said city money should not be spent on SWAT teams, unnecessary or vacant positions and raises for police officers.

Javellana said Hallandale Beach residents were “oppressed by discriminatory policing.” As an example, she referred to the death of Howard Bowe.

Javellana said SWAT members who resigned after her comments were “disgusting” for quitting en masse like police officers in Buffalo, New York.

In regards to the arguments that defunding the police would lead to more crime, Javellana said the “danger is totally made up.”
