The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is sponsoring “Multi-Agency LGBTQ Cultural Awareness Training” to its sworn deputies and civilian employees. According to a promotional flyer, the training, “will introduce key concepts to individuals working within the public safety sector, to cultivate understanding and awareness for members of the LGBTQ+ community.” The flyer claims the training was funded by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The training objectives include “insight and understanding for the LGBTQ+ community and the differences between sex, sexual orientation, and gender expression.”
Three sessions will be offered in June at the YMCA/Mizell Community Center in Fort Lauderdale. The flyer states the program is “Supported by the YMCA of South Florida.”
No word if embattled Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony will attend.
