Broward County government officials are seeking answers about their sponsorship of Destination Sistrunk, a black cultural center in Fort Lauderdale. REDBROWARD exposed ties between Destination Sistrunk and the Broward Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). On Saturday, Destination Sistrunk and Broward DSA co-hosted a socialist book reading event at the government sponsored facility. One day later, Broward DSA participated in a pro-Palestine march in Fort Lauderdale.
During the march, one participant called for “intifada” in Florida while another carried a sign depicting Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as Adolf Hitler. Many protesters chanted about the removal of Israel and its citizens from the Middle East.
Destination Sistrunk is funded by numerous government entities such as the cultural division of Broward County Government, the Visit Lauderdale tourism board and the City of Fort Lauderdale.
Now, REDBROWARD can confirm multiple Broward County Commissioners want answers about its funding of Destination Sistrunk.
One Commissioner told a constituent he found the REDBROWARD reports so “concerning” that he asked the County Attorney to gather more information.

I don’t see this article as exposing anything. WHICH elected government officials are questioning the sponsorship? Which 2 or 3 County Commissioners are questioning the County’s funding of Destination Sistrunk? Which constituent was told by which County Commissioner that he, or she, wanted the County Attorney to look into it???

Thank you, but, I’LL decide what I think is unworthy of reading. Do you remember the little boys in 5th and 6th grade giggling over naked black breasts in National Geographic? The more you try to hide information, the more enticing it is to inquisitive minds. Destination Sistrunk needs support, not the innuendos and allegations your article provides.
As I previously reported, the books featured at two Destination Sistrunk events were not part of the “banned books” brouhaha. They were socialist and CRT titles from a self-proclaimed “radical” publisher. Never called on them to be banned or hidden, but a government-sponsored cultural facility should not be hosting political events.
