A local organization sponsored by the Broward County Government Cultural Division and the Visit Lauderdale tourism board co-hosted a left-wing political event with a pro-Hamas socialist organization on Saturday. Destination Sistrunk and Broward Democratic Socialists Of America (DSA) hosted the “Reading Aloud” event in Fort Lauderdale. One day later, the Broward DSA and its members joined a large pro-Palestine march in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The event came three weeks after Hamas massacred nearly 2,000 Israeli men, women and children.
In the days following the Hamas attacks, the Broward County Commission unanimously passed a resolution supporting Israel. However, the Democratic Socialists of America and other far-left groups spoke out against Israel. Even some longtime DSA members were shocked by the group’s pro-Hamas sentiments.
Michigan Congressman Shri Thanedar “officially renounced his DSA membership, saying in a statement Wednesday that he won’t ‘associate with an organization unwilling to call out terrorism in all its forms.’” Even far-left New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman left the DSA.
The New York DSA was forced to back off it’s support Hamas. According to POLITICO, the NY DSA “noted it didn’t organize or sponsor the rally, which was not attended by any elected officials.”
BROWARD DSA
On the same day Hamas launched attacks on innocent Israelis, the Broward DSA urged supporters to attend a pro-Palestine rally the next day. That rally lead to violent encounters between pro Hamas and pro-Israel supporters in the middle of Sunrise Boulevard.
Over the last three weeks, the Broward DSA and fellow Reading Aloud hosts, Broward Dream Defenders, have repeatedly posted pro-Hamas rally information along with socialist propaganda.
Nearly every pro-Palestine rally promoted by these socialists features protestors chanting the now-familiar “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
Earlier this month, Broward County Commissioner Steve Geller addressed this chant.
“We have a lot of people who frequently talk about or they chant the slogan, from the mountains to the sea, Palestine will be free,” Geller continued. “If you unpack that mountains to the ocean, that they’re describing the State of Israel when they are chanting that they’re actually calling for the destruction of the State of Israel.”
Why is an organization sponsored by Broward County Government and Visit Lauderdale hosting any event with these types of groups?
Why are tax dollars and tourist dollars being used to host political events in Broward County?
Why is any organization sponsored by Broward County Government and Visit Lauderdale associated with a group supporting calls for “intifada” in Florida?
I stand with Israel.
Standing with Palestine does not equate to standing with Hamas.
I believe in a Two State solution.
Murder is murder.
What Hamas did is unconscionable.
They chant “from the river to the sea.” That is the antithesis of a two-state solution. A sign at protest called for “intifada” in Florida. Does your average Palestinian want “intifada” in Florida?
This is a travesty. It takes a lot to shock me, but I am truly shocked beyond words. I just emailed this column to my District Commissioner, Steve Geller, and asked for answers. Hopefully, he will respond soon. This needs to stop immediately!
On another note, I sincerely hope that the Jews of Broward County start seriously reconsidering their affiliation with today’s anti-Semitic Democratic party. My father was a life long Democrat, but I’m sure he wouldn’t recognize his beloved party today. Frankly, I’m relieved he’s not around to see what it has become.

The ADL has also confirmed that since the horrendous actions of Hamas on Oct. 7 there has been almost a 400% rise in ACTUAL anti-semitic incidents in just this country alone, such as the John Anthony Millers of this country who is now being criminally prosecuted for his horrific threats against Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), her office and her family. The only thing your father likely wouldn’t recognize is your political disposition and blatant unsupportable rhetoric in the face of ever-increasing violence. By the way, one is not anti-semitic just because they question or do not support the current version of Zionism as practiced by the Netanyahu regime and its repercussions for Palestinians that are under the thumb of Hamas.

The antisemitism has shocked me. They are complaining about so called Palestinian genocide while calling for the genocide of the Jews around the world. Palestinians elected Hamas. If they won’t go, then Palestinians need to rise up against them. As far as a 2 state solution, everytime it’s close, Hamas walks away. So let’s stop blaming Israel for its failure. And the rip open a pregnant woman to tear out and kill her baby, burning people alive, and raping women with such force as to break her pelvic bones is just plain evil. And evil must be defeated.
