Fort Lauderdale Official Admits Tidal Valves Cause Flooding

Nancy Gassman, City of Fort Lauderdale Assistant Public Works Director

WATCH City of Fort Lauderdale Assistant Public Works Director Nancy Gassman admit her tidal valve strategy causes flooding. After REDBROWARD posted this video, the official City of Fort Lauderdale YouTube channel commented.

They wrote, “Tidal valves had no impact on the April 2023 flooding in the City of Fort Lauderdale. When there is a rain event during a high tide, tidal valves remain closed to prevent tidal water from backing up into the storm drain system and flooding city streets. Once the tide recedes, the tidal valves are able to reopen and allow fresh rainwater to discharge into waterways.

More to come.

i live in flooded River Oaks , our new (and will never work) STORMWATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM will be finished in 2025….that is 2 more HURRICANE SEASONS….our excisting system has been disconnected , BEFORE, the new one is in place. I walk the neighborhood with my Dog Lilly, the drains we have are either COVERED OVER, or FILLED WITH DEBRIS to the top of the grate. We are set up to flood, bottom line. I have lived in this neighborhood for 60 years….never, ever had flood insurance—NEVER NEEDED!!! Now, if it rains for 20 minutes, SW 20th str, 12th ave, 19th, 21, 21ct FLOODED…..AGAIN, we are right now—SET UP TO FLOOD!!!
