Fort Lauderdale, Broward Still Have Not Asked Tallahassee For Assistance, Mayor Trantalis Says He Is Waiting For Governor Ron DeSantis To Call Him

Broward County and the City of Fort Lauderdale have yet to ask Tallahassee for assistance with the epic flooding and rainfall. Why?

During a Thursday morning press conference, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis thanked Sen. Marco Rubio and the White House for phone calls.

“Governor DeSantis has not yet called,” Trantalis said. “I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m sure he’s very interested in what’s going on here.”

DeSantis’ Deputy Press Secretary Jeremy Redfern told REDBROWARD, “Director [Kevin] Guthrie has been proactively reaching out to the city and county on behalf of the DeSantis Administration. We have yet to receive a request for assistance from Broward or Ft. Lauderdale, but the state is still sending resources to assist Floridians.”

This morning, Trantalis announced he signed a declaration of emergency.

Broward Mayor Lamar Fisher told REDBROWARD, “The Governor has had a representative at our Broward County Emergency Operations Center for the past hour and a half providing assistance where needed.”

Well, perhaps the Mayor should make a call, as that’s how the process starts as per the law. Please note that even though “Broward County has not requested assistance from the state, the Florida Division of Emergency Management has deployed the following” as described by Executive Order-23-65, issued by Governor DeSantis in the absence of any request from county government, declaring a State of Emergency in Broward County.

Here’s a link to the declaration for those interested:

Or maybe he should be a real leader in the state in which he reportedly is Governor and skip his latest campaign visit in Ohio and stay in Florida to be proactive…but, then again, why let politics get in the way of human lives much like his COVID “policies.” PS: Rubio and DC didn’t wait for a phone call.
