TMZ reports actor Luke Perry died Monday morning at age 52. The Beverly Hills 90210 actor suffered a massive stroke late last year and never recovered. It had just been announced that Perry and his 90210 castmates were set to star in a reboot of the iconic Fox television show.

When the original 90210 hit the airwaves in the early 1990s, Luke Perry was not a household name. That changed after an August 1991 visit the Fashion Mall in Plantation.

Perry became an instant heartthrob after fans mobbed the actor at the now-defunct mall along University Drive.

The Sun-Sentinel republican 29 injuries at the “melee at the mall” when Perry met fans.

“The bottom line is we were expecting between 3,000 and 5,000 and we got 8,000 to 10,000 people,” said Carol Joyce, the mall manager. “The problem began when he first came on stage and the people surged forward. It was a management decision to cancel the show.”
