Last night in Plantation, politicians and teachers called on Governor Rick Scott to veto education bill HB 7069. Organizers believe 150 members of the public attended the forum hosted by the Broward Teachers Union (BTU), the Broward PTA, Broward School Board Members and County Commissioner Beam Furr. Educators and politicians across the State fear HB 7069 will hurt public schools by shifting more funds to charter schools.
Literature distributed at the forum claimed HB 7069 would “eliminate” $13 million from Broward classrooms, eliminate funding for personnel and programs at “our most fragile schools,” and may even “force local schools in your community to close.”
REDBROWARD spoke with BTU President Anna Fusco about the problems with HB 7069 as well as the Union’s attempts to work with Governor Rick Scott after years of vicious attacks.
