Yet another mystery candidate has joined the Democrat race to be the next Broward Sheriff. Donald “DD Jones of Coral Springs filed his campaign paperwork to be Broward’s top cop even though he’s not currently in law enforcement. According to the State of Florida, Jones is no longer certified to be a police officer. However, the State says Jones has a current cosmetologist license.
When contacted by REDBROWARD, Jones was less than eager to talk about his campaign. Jones admitted he was not currently serving in law enforcement. He said his law enforcement resume includes stints as a Texas corrections officer, a member of the Pompano Beach road patrol and a corrections officer with BSO.
State records show Jones worked as a BSO corrections officer from 1987 to 1989. The State said it was a “voluntary separation (not involving misconduct).”
More recently, State business records show Jones owned a Lauderhill cigar company as well as a home inspection business.
Jones is the latest mystery candidate challenging Broward Sheriff Scott Israel. REDBROWARD has documented the bizarre campaign of Edison Jules.
