In a transparent maneuver to avoid voting (again) for Obamacare, Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) has drafted a resolution begging the U.S. Supreme Court to save Democrats running for re-election in 2012. Last week, a Federal judge from Florida declared Obamacare unconstitutional. The ruling put added pressure on Senate Democrats who vote today on repealing the controversial government takeover of healthcare.
Nelson’s resloution states:
Resolved, That it is the sense of the Senate that—
(1) the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law 111–148; 124 Stat. 119) is of utmost public importance; and
(2) on petition, the Supreme Court of the United States should grant a writ of certiorari under rule 11 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of the United States regarding the constitutionality of that Act before judgment in the matter is entered in a United States court of appeals.
Realizing Obamacare is very unpopular in Florida, Nelson hopes to delay any vote on its repeal until after the Supreme Court takes up the matter. Nelson’s continuing support for the program looks to be the main issue in his re-election bid next year. Stay tuned…
