Broward Judges Face Challengers As Races Close

Broward judges will face last minute challengers as the races are set for August. County Judge Nina DiPietro will face off against Brenda Di Ioia and former Judge Ian Richards. Many Broward insiders were surprised by Richards last minute entry into the race. Richards lost his seat in 2014 to underdog candidate Claudia Robinson.

Judge Kal Evans will face off against another last minute candidate, Phyliss Pritcher. Moments before Pritcher entered the race, Evans’ other challenger,  Kathleen McCarthy switched to a different race. She will run against Judge Stephen Zaccor.

Attorney Dale Miller qualified for the Group 3 seat. He will face Adam Geller, Rhoda Sokoloff and Judy Stern’s latest candidate, Florence Barner.

Will Broward Democrats Abandon Sheriff Israel-Bashing Consultant Dan Lewis?

As REDBROWARD reported earlier, it appears local Democrat consultant Dan Lewis has declared war on Broward Sheriff Scott Israel. REDBROWARD exposed Lewis’ role in the Citizens Over Public Safety (COPS) political committee. Records show Lewis purchased website domain names just days before the political committee filed its paperwork with the Broward County Supervisor of Elections offices. Sources described a strategy meeting between Lewis and committee backers where they discussed ways to hurt the re-election chances of Sheriff Israel.

Now, Broward political insiders wonder if taking on the powerful Sheriff Israel will hurt the electoral chances of Dan Lewis’ political clients.

How will Lewis’ current clients feel about his support of a committee which aims to hurt Israel while helping political newcomer James Fondo?

According to campaign treasurer reports, Dan Lewis is working for at least seven candidates on the November ballot.

Earlier this year, REDBROWARD revealed the wordy fundraising emails Lewis crafted for Broward judicial candidates. According to the reports, these emails failed to bring in the big bucks. Records show Lewis received $7,107. 86 from Judge Jay Hurley and $4,289.94 from Judge Hope Tieman-Bristol. Lewis banked $5,764.60 from judicial candidate Rhoda Sokoloff and $6,116.75 from fellow judicial candidate Doreen Inkeles.

Records show Broward State Attorney Mike Satz paid Lewis $2,500 last October. Broward County Mayor Marty Kiar gave Lewis $2,500 for work on his campaign for County Property Appraiser.

Lewis’ biggest client is former Broward Democrat Party Chairman Mitch Ceasar, currently a candidate for Broward County Clerk of Courts. Records show Lewis’ companies have been paid nearly $11,000 by the Ceasar campaign.

Will Mitch Ceasar stick with Dan Lewis? Will other clients tell Lewis to buzz off?

Lewis still has not replied to our request for comment. We’ve reached out to the candidates for their takes. We will update this story soon.
