When he’s not bashing police officers or senior citizens, Tamarac Vice Mayor Elberg Mike Gelin (D-Hypocrite) loves to attack the second amendment. Whenever there’s an act of gun violence, Gelin takes to social to attack gun owners and Republicans. In the wake of horrific school shootings, Gelin mocks those who offer “thoughts and prayers.” Gelin has called for a ban on semi-automatic rifles.
One thing you won’t see Gelin post about is his membership in the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA). According to their website, the NAAGA seeks to “establish a fellowship by educating on the rich legacy of gun ownership by African Americans, offering training that supports safe gun use for self defense and sportsmanship, and advocating for the inalienable right to self-defense for African Americans.” The group’s goal “is to have every African American introduced to firearm use for home protection, competitive shooting, and outdoor recreational activities. We are a pro 2nd amendment organization focused on the preservation of our community through armed protection and community building.”
Compare the mission of NAAGA to the National Rifle Association(NRA). On its website, the NRA supports activities “designed to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those participating in the shooting sports, and to educate the general public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.”
On its YouTube channel, NAAGA founder and president Philip Smith mocks those calling for a ban on the AR-15 rifle. Smith says the AR-15 protects his family better than any other gun he has in his house.
According to his Instagram account, Elberg Mike Gelin does not share Smith’s view on the rifle. On May 26, 2022, two days after the horrific elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Gelin shared a meme calling for a ban on the AR-15 since police officers were afraid to confront someone wielding it.
NAAGA IN THE NEWS
Four months earlier, Elberg Mike Gelin was featured in “NAAGA IN THE NEWS” section of SHARPSHOOTER, the official NAAGA newsletter. NAAGA celebrated Gelin being named vice mayor. Editor In Chief Kia Glenn wrote, “Check out the announcement of Florida NAAGA member Mike Gelin and his promotion to Vice Mayor of his city.”
Why would a member of pro-gun rights group call for the banning of guns?
Why would NAAGA member Elberg Mike Gelin mock fellow supporters of the Second Amendment?
How many guns does Elberg Mike Gelin own?
Why does he fail to mention his membership in NAAGA to voters when he’s blasting Republicans over gun rights?
Is this just another case of a hypocritical politician seeking to curtail the rights of the public while enjoying those very same rights behind closed doors?
