Mayor Dean Trantalis(D-Hapless) shrank in the national spotlight as NBC News reported on the City Of Fort Lauderdale sewer disaster. Dubbed“Toxic Water Crisis In Popular Beach Destination” the two minute report aired during the NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt on Monday. Trantalis had no answers when asked about the 200+ million gallons of raw sewage his administration pumped into local waterways.
“There’s no way anyone could have taken care of every single aspect overnight,” Trantalis said. “It’s going to take years to do it.”

Local resident Kevin Cochrane told NBC News the infrastructure issue threatens safe drinking water, clean waterways and increases risk of disease. “This is a state of emergency,” Cochrane said.
Earlier Monday, famed environmental lawyer Erin Brockovich offered her help to Fort Lauderdale.
