Jack was a pig, was called lobster boy while holding office because he would vote a certain way for a sea food meal. Bye Bye

I take great umbrage at the comments of Straight Shooter, particularly at this time.

I will not debate whether there ever was a time for such remarks, but it has to be plain to any reasonable person that now would not be the time for such vitriolic-laden comment. This was a cheap, errant shot, Straight Shooter.

For the record, Jack Tobin was the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 240, Bronx NY, when I was a scout, and he mentored me and many others in many ways through the boy scout program. Jack, while not having a son of his own in the troop, led a legion of young men over a ten-year span, from the early 1960s to 1970s to be leaders, self-reliant, and perform community service–during the Vietnam War era when drugs were rampant and society was in an upheaval. These boys went on to become successes and upstanding men in many fields of endeavor throughout this great land–guys who still to this day contribute to their communities and would go toward danger to help or save another (even you).

Wearing uniforms of any kind in the late 1960s was very unpopular, and when scouts started coming to meetings out of boy scout uniform because they were embarrassed, Jack became furious. “You either wear that uniform with pride to the meetings, or don’t come at all,” he proclaimed. We all came in uniform thereafter. Troop 240, by the way, just celebrated its 90th anniversary.

My two sons are Eagle Scouts, in no small part to the legacy of Jack N. Tobin.

I am certain, Straight Shooter, that any one of that legion of young men from the Bronx who Jack Tobin influenced, upon reading your comments, would want to go down to Florida and spit in your eye–for starters. We’re all pretty much straight shooters, too. And among other things, a scout is loyal, you know.

Whatever your grudge, please keep your vile comments to yourself and allow the family to mourn and grieve.

And while your at it, ask yourself how people might eulogize and say “bye bye” to you, you creep.

      Courteously and kindly,
      Eagle Scout #32
      BSA Troop 240
      Bronx, NY
